Never thought booking a holiday could be so difficult, but this year its doind my head in!!

Need to book a holiday for me, the mrs and 2 kids (8 and 1)

Dates are from 23rd July to 7th August.

1 week to 10 days.

£2k budget, better if less.

I was thinking of a small villa in Portugal, Spain, Balaerics or possibly France. Would prefer a fairly private location, but would consider a half decent hotel. Things to keep the kids amused in surrounding area would be a bonus.

Any ideas?!

Im running out of inspiration (and the will to live)!!

Have you tried Keycamp? My kids love it! 2 weeks in France less than £1500 staying in a static.

10 days - £1057

Thanks for the suggestion, this could well be on the cards.

From a slightly selfish pov, I was hoping for a small villa, but looks like you have to book early to get something good. All the good ones on ownersdirect.co.uk are booked up.

Word of advise about Keycamp, and static caravans are a rule.

"Mummy, Dad!!!! - the caravan is shaking and I'm scarred!"

Is not something you want to hear mid-stroke.

Had a nice week in Chambord with them last month wink

If you are interested in a static caravan in this country I have one that is vacant for that week - see my website.

We went to salou/portaventura theme park last year, the weather was nice, rented an apartment on the beach, the theme park wasn't too crowded. Barcelona is a couple of hours away, so can be done in a day.

We flew with Ryan air (it's only 2hours away), so all in all it was very cheap for the time of year.

All in all I think it was less than a grand for a week.

I wasn't expecting much, so was pleasantly surprised

Have to agree with some of the posters, the Keycamp type thing is the way to go with kids in the budget. I'm going back to it this year for a week in the Vendee after a break of eight years. Kids adore it and lets face it, if they're having fun, so will we!

Matthews Holidays are worth a look, private operator but plenty of sites in France and they've been excellent to us in the past.

Final tip...don't travel saturday/saturday if you can avoid it, lots of flexibility these days on travel dates that didn't used to exist.

Didn't know they were still going. Had a couple of good holidays in France with them many years ago when our lad was small. So +1.

God dam, I was worried about the Scarred / Scared trap so I checked and bloody double bluffed myself.

In my defence I'm dyslexic, and I mean that in a really diagnosed, treated for (for what it was worth) as a kid for it type of way, not merely the catch-all term for those of us not blessed academically type of way.

how about a club med, great for the 8 year old, lots to do and loads of ready made friends, also easy on the dining front as it tends to be less formal and fairly laidback, Lots for M & D to do if you dont want to roast in the sun all day

May still be able to get a villa somewhere like Peniscola as it's out of the way. It does involve flying to Barcelona and driving down or Alicante and driving up - about 200km.

Otherwise one idea (availability annoyingly left blank so may not be available at all)

Cheers for all the suggestions (and the advice on how to shag in a caravan!)

Managed to find flights and 8 nights in a villa in Vale do Lobo, Algarve for £1400. So quite pleased with that, esp seeing that it was a bit last minute.

The kids don't do that badly, so they can wait til next year for a eurocamp holiday!

Check out Dunas Douradas which is the development next to VDL while you are out there, villa's tend to be be somewhat cheaper and is walking distance, check to see if they are running the weekly BBQ at Xenia in Dunas, food is pretty good and really laid back with other families with kids looking for a relaxed evening out without having to confine the ankle biters to the table, they usually have a small band/group until about 11'ish

let me know if you want to know anything else about the area, i have a villa out there and have been going to VDL/Dunas for more years than a i care to mention, love the place
