PH Advice: Hows this deal?
Discussion
Looking to chop my current family car in this weekend and I have been offered the following so far. I suspect there is further negotiation available but what do you think I should be pushing for as an end goal.
P/X Current Car.
Alfa Romeo 159Ti 2.4JTDm
2007 '57
61,000mls
FSH (but due its cambelt service in 2k)
Alfa Red
Black Leather
P/X Price offered = £7,500
New Car
Jaguar XF SV8
2008 '58
24,311mls
£25,500
Dealer has not (yet) budged on the price of the Jag, saying that there is only £500 profit in it for them at list price anyway (I smell BS personally) but I feel the P/X value is not actually too bad.
The remaining difference will be covered by using their finance products, so money to be made there aswell...
What do you think?
(To make the deal 'ideal' for me I want to drop £2000 off the price of the Jag.)

Not in the trade but from experience i'd say you definitely still have some negotiation... assuming this is pretty much opening offers..
Think you should be looking to negotiate on the PX (even though it's a good start) and the Jag. There is then the APR on the finance as well, from recent negotiations there is usually a fair amount (£50) a month to be saved over the same term by just negotiating on the APR.
Need to be prepared to walk, sure there will be another garage out there with at least a similar deal!
P.S - Never been a jag man but love the XF, good choice!

Ok thanks for the advice. So on the face of it the deal isn't too bad which Im pleased to hear.
I thinking it may be better to try and have some accessories thrown in with the Jag if the dealer doesn't budge on price. Im thinking rear bootlid spoiler, quad 'look' exhaust trims and the alloys refurbed in anthracite...
Im still patiently waiting on a call back for the finance quote (Im not going to call them as I dont want them to think Im too keen) but before I get the quote can anybody advise on what sort of margins for negotiation dealers generally have available to play with?
Thanks again.

Can't really say about part-ex or XFR prices as it's not 100% clear which spec, equipment and condition, so I think these prices could be +/- 10-20% depending on a number of factors.
However, regarding the APR question - I always shop around on the internet for personal loans and then compare what I know I can get online to what the dealer is offering me. If the dealer won't match or beat the APR you can get yourself by spending 15mins online, then get the finance yourself and take them a cheque. Dealers often bump the base APR by as much as they think they can get away with to recover profit in the deal, so shop around first.

I would think selling News International shares to the Dowler family is easier than shifting £25k petrol V8 Jags right now, so I'd keep leaning on more money off the jag if I were you. Start suggesting the running costs are putting you off and you've found a nice 3.0D somewhere else for not much more and you'll go and buy it unless they do something really special for you.
