Is it just my perception or are pedestrians in Glasgow the worst in the world?
Launching directly off the pavement, often while looking straight at the oncoming vehicles as if daring them to run them down.
Too involved in listening to 'their muisic' or having that life changing telephone conversation to even cosider looking before stepping directly into the road.
Crossing from one pavement to the opposite side by the longest ( diagonal) route to create most inconvenience to every other road user.
Parents pushing prams off the pavement into traffic and only once on the roadway deeming it worthwhile to even glance at the traffic.
I regularly drive in cities all over the U.K. and northern Europe yet always feel Glasgow is in a league of its own.... Or is it just me?

Every time my father drove up from England, he would complain to me about those "blasted jaywalkers" in Glasgow. He'd never seen anything like it.

biggrin I've never really considered this before but yeah, Glasgow is pretty horrible to drive in for that reason.

Well, you know, what with all the 'deprivation' up here, it's a bit of a power thing for some people to be able to walk into traffic and impede your progress in your nice car.

The thing that amazes me, on a daily basis, is the sheer volume and variety of people in Glasgow that are to be found walking straight off the kerb into traffic. It doesn't seem to matter what time of day, whether it is raining or dry or even the age group of them.
I spent most of yesterday driving in and out of the city centre and had to drill the brakes so many times it was just crazy. It was a beautiful sunny day, I am not in a hurry, enjoying cruising about ( windows down - air con off - music on - car polished to perfection) and every other junction some cretin lurched off the pavement as if the road was empty.
The really annoying thing is that as soon as you brake every other clown in town then sees this as the perfect opportunity to follow their leader across the road and you are left trying to make progress through an increasingly large flow of pedestians as the lights, that were green, now turn red, potentially leaving you high and dry in the middle of a box junction looking like a complete amateur frown

In town, slow down. 20's plenty.

It's a pretty unfriendly city for pedestrians and cars really.

Amccan 10 you have a valid point for sure! It seemed yesterday that the reduced pace simply encouraged more and more people to dive into the road.
While I totally agree with a significantly reduced pace in town/ traffic/ near schools. In practice, and in the city centre in particular, it has the reverse effect of actually encouraging people to walk out.
Totally frustrating!!

Glasweigans are almost always drunk, how can we be responsible for our own road safety...?

I never deviate for a pedestrian. Unless its an elderly person, they have no understanding of oncoming speed and such.

Several times the local young team stand in the road and ive seen drivers have to stop and beep before they walk off.
I keep at a steady speed, they soon scatter.

right you guys and galls, have you ever driven in north berwick in summer time.. what a hoot. but in edinburgh the road works every where do not allow you to drive anywhere.. so ye dinnae see any pedestrians. weegie land says nae trams so roads are not as congested-well sort of- and anyway weegie pedestrians are harder than yer plastic front end of your motor. hit them and they will get up and dust themselves down and carry on..go for it.. ps im a weegie.and ive seen more p***heads in inverness than glesca.biglaugh
