I used to love, adore, admire, and neeeeed a Ferrari 308.... But now I look at them in the classifieds and they really don't do anything for me. But then I look at an F430......
Why is this? I should love and want a 308. Yet I think even with a Euromillions win I wouldn't get one now..
Anyone else in the same boat? Always, and I mean always wanted a car but now look at them and don't feel the way they did when they were a kid?

When you're kid, all you can imagine is the fact that you'll race it everywhere and it'll be nothing but fun. My car was a red 959 Athena picture, and it was perfect in every way. I knew aged 15 that it would be the most incredible thing to own and drive.
Whilst I never got my 959, the reality is that every time you get into something special, it costs you a fortune, you hear every squeak and rattle and become concerned that there is something wrong with it. You also get frustrated by slow drivers in front of you, and then worry when you leave it somewhere less salubrious.
Sadly adulthood dilutes a lot of the magic.
Yes,i felt exactly the same way about the testarossa.All through my childhood and teenage years i have never loved/wanted a car so much and promised myself one day i would have one.I am in a position now where i could get one if i wanted but like yourself if i had all the money in the world the thought wouldn't even cross my mind!

Growing up in the 70's and watching films like Smokey and the Bandit, Gumball Rally, Vanishing Point and so on, I naturally wanted one of those strange cars that had huge engines and sounded totally different from the cars in my street. Not hard when you're surrounded by Maxis, Chevettes and Avengers!
Got to admit I certainly haven't been disappointed by running a Chevy V8 powered Aussie musclecar, it's fooking ace!
Glad I didn't fall in love with Italian or German exotica though, I'd have been a broken man by now money-wise!

Well change is the only constant and everything has to be taken in context now we have a lot more to think about such as work, life, insurance, etc. etc. If the 430 was around when you were a youngster no doubt that would have been your object of desire (the same can be said about the actresses and models of the day compared to now as well) so look at it this way the model of car might have changed but the passion is still there so I think it's okay
Ever since I can remember, I have been obsessed with cars, particularly the Lamborghini Countach.
I have been fortunate enough in times gone by to be passenger in an LP400 and an Anniversary, and only last weekend I had a sit in a stunning QV that is for sale, not that I'm in a position to buy one.
I'm worried that if I ever do manage to become an owner, the driving / owning experience might not live up to my expectations.
It might do, but if it doesn't, there has never been a car I've wanted more and undoubtedly never will be, so what would I do then?
But I do still think the Ferrari 308 is much more desirable than the F430, purely on looks and noise.
