£5k budget, under 4 years old

What would you get?

A mate needs a new car as soon as possible and the only requirements are those in the title. He uses the car for getting from A to B, doesn't care about anything else.

As cheap to buy, run, insure, tax and fix as possible and as reliable as possible. He's 22 if that makes a difference to anything.

I'm thinking Japanese or Korean. You can just about get a 2007 Civic with that, or a Mazda 3. He also doesn't want to buy private, that seems quite tricky though.

Skoda seem to build a robust car, and do well in satisfaction surveys.

If he doesn't care, then I don't think you can get newer/lower mileage/lower insurance than this piece of old ste motoring a-b transport...

Some sort of Kia with good few years of warranty remaning. I think they are a perfect candidate for A to B car.

Nooo I didn't ask for a specific country, I was just saying that I was looking at Japanese or Korean cars before I made this thread.

To me, it looks like a 2008 Aygo for about £4500 is the best choice so far as it is just for commuting and nothing more.

As long as they are built to the mother companies tolerances, who cares where they are built? Skoda seem to be doing okay with their Czech workforce compared to the German counterparts.

Suzuki=Japanese even if they outsource their manufacture.
