We're currently on the search for a sub £2k Focus, and i've been to look at two today.
The first was a 1.6 Focus 'ink'. Lovely looking car in dark metallic blue with leather interior. All was going well until I got in the car to take it for a test drive and it wouldn't start. It was very low on fuel so the seller put a few litres in from a can, and it still failed to start.
I walked away asking the seller to ring me when fixed.
The second car was a 1.6 Focus Ghia. Nice condition, everything worked, full MOT, but it just didn't excite me like the first car. It did though have the advantage of starting when you turn the key.
We want to make a decision this weekend, and the girlfriend keeps asking me why I don't phone up and put a deposit on the second car, but I keep hoping the 1st car gets fixed tomorrow (as promised by the seller) and the test drive goes well.
Am I being stupid holding out for a non-working car? Would anyone else consider coming back despite the fact that the car failed to start? The seller states that the car has never done this before, but i'm not sure I believe him.
Come on people, give me stories of taking a gamble on a car and not regretting it!

I can't make myself gamble on cars...
Looked at a bunch of cheap Chimaeras, they all had issues. One was great mechanically, terrible cosmetically...I couldn't take that chance. Another was great mechanically, outriggers came apart in my hands. Last one looked great, completely pampered...but apparently it had a cherry bomb exhaust (or a misfire), lots of white smoke and an unscrewed ignition warning light on the dash...cough cough
So instead im going to buy a house. I feel dead inside...I want a daft car
