Train tickets/prices
Discussion
Got to do a journey from SE London to Egham tomorrow, returning to a different station in the same zone but on a different line later on in the day. All on train, no tube.
Any suggestions as to how I do it to get the cheapest possible ticket? Should I tell station ticket bloke the above and get him to work it out? Or should I get a normal return (and will it work, even though I am returning to a different Zone 5 station?)?
It's complicated by having to leave before 9.30 - wondering whether to use oyster for the first journey and when changing on the first journey (after 9.30) buying a ticket...
Thoughts?

If you've already got a travel card then ask for an a travel card extension (e.g. if you have zones 1-5, then you only need to buy zone 5 - Egham, you can use the travelcard for the journey as far as the boundary (somewhere between Whitton/Hounslow and Feltham)
For the sake of checking the website, I've guessed that you're travelling from Bickley, Bickley to Egham in the morning rush is £19.50, using an Oyster as far as Feltham knocks it down to 2x £5.20 Oyster singles + £6.50 Feltham - Egham return, assuming you hit Feltham before 9:30 so you'd save about £2.90 and add in all the faff of having to bail out at Feltham to touch in/out and buy another ticket.
Another option is to split tickets at Clapham Jct, a Clapham - Egham return is £9.90, but I can't figure out what it would cost to get to Clapham in the first place. If you can do it for under a tenner then go for it!
Edit - as the prev poster says, have a play about on nationalrail.co.uk and tfl.gov.uk & see what it comes up with.

Thanks guys, some good ideas there. Oyster obviously doesn't go out as far as Egham.
What I'm struggling with is finding out if I can use a return ticket to go somewhere different but in the same zone.
I don't really like Oyster as I can never work out what I'm being charged. Thing is, a single up to town, plus travelcard, plus 2 extensions is going to cost a fair bit too. A return from my intial zone 5 station to egham is 20 quid odd, what I need to know is if it is valid to a different station (but same zone)
