I've had my little vx220 for over 5 years now, and while it ticks every box I need, it misses the family box - the lack of third/fourth seat.
So I've been considering my options, and this is only theoretical at the moment as I'm keeping it for another 6 to 12 months, but to pose the question:
What could give me an equivalent 0-100 of sub 10 secs, and onto 160 with no effort, can scare the bejesus out of me but still be easy around town?
Also would like it to be convertible and not too big - certainly not a family wagon as I have one already.
The only four (2+2) seater I can think of that vaguely fits this is some kind of 911, but is that too obvious?
Budget is around £30K

-06/07Audi RS4 Cab
-CLK 55 AMG with change to spare.
-XKR Convertible
Different options :
- Highly tuned Skyline or supra with change for a ragtop
- E60 M5
-E90 M3 possibly a few Hardtop soft tops would have dropped under 30k by the time you come around to buying.
-Maserati Gransport

?You'll find a good M6 convertible in 9 to 12 months time in that price bracket I should think?

Just get a warranty that's as good as the car and you'll be laughing! My E60 M5 was remarkably cheap to run compared to some I've owned; and could leave most behind even on a twisty B road...

Entirely this. The BMW AUC M6 coupe's are looking stunning VFM at c£24k at the moment too. Thanks - hadn't realised the M6 had dropped that low so may be a contender.
Still quite like the idea of a porsche, although there is a lot of scaremongering on engines liquidating themselves - not sure how true this really is? I suppose a warranty covers it though.
As for highly tuned stuff, the little vx is pushing 300bhp and 320lbs ft and has never broken down so it doesn't scare me off, but I think I need a bit of refinement and reliability to tempt the mrs to actually get in the passenger seat.
I quite like the idea of a DB9 as well, but i think that has the potential of some huge bills - seen a few in the low 40's but maybe it would be a little too refined? and too heavy on the wallet...

M6 would be a great choice aswell if a good one comes under 30k but for more I'd be looking the 2 above.

the intention was maybe a DB9 would be low 30's next year, but maybe that's wishful thinking..plus in reality you're right it would probably be too much to run. Prefer the look of the baby V8 anyway, but then i'm back with the same problem of seats.

I like the idea of the M6, but then depreciation could be a killer - I reckon if I ignore the cost of mods i've only lost a couple of grand on the vx in 5 years, so i've been lucky.
