was always told that tissot was a good quality make, i just wanted to make sure it hasn't fallen into "fashion watch" catagory as so many makes seem to be.

Like quite a few brands over the years they've been taken over by a much larger parent company but I wouldn't let that put you off in this case - http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/xforums/topic.asp?h=0...
Without wanting to dampen the OPs enthusiasm: I feel that Tissot are now only a shadow of their former selves...
Swatch have 'repositioned' them in the market and they are barely 'Swiss' watches now (wth many being far East watches only fettled in Switzerland).
I have an automatic Tissot Divermatic PR100, which is insured against a Longines Hydroconquest, because its worth more used than many new Tissot watches cost...
The Valjoux calibred automatic chrono is a nice enough piece, but much of the remaining range is trading on the companys past.

Great daily wear watch. Mine is 6 or 7 years old (different dial and case) and gets worn when I need an accurate timepiece (auto's dont hack it when each minute is vital to catch the train), and when I need a tough timepiece.
Mine goes snorkelling, climbing, squash playing, surfing and windsurfing as well as to Board meetings, client meetings etc

I really like Tissots, old and new, here are my 3. All worn frequently.
6 Year old PRS200 as mentioned earlier

1952 Manual 18k gold manual watch with lovely workmanship especially the raised gold Tissot logo, slim case for the period and the movement. Very rare watch apparently and I am trying to find out more about it.

1965 (ish) Seastar Auto. Lots of patina and I can't decide whether to get it cleaned up. Also use a daily wear, currently on an Omega 1970's deployment strap

Sorry about poor quality pics from the Blackberry
