All these 'tarty' new cars
Discussion
Has it gone too far? You know the ones I'm on about; BMW 320d coupes, A3 black editions, A5 S-Lines in white. Some of them seem to be the motoring equivalent of a slapper in white high-heels lifting her skirt around the rough pubs in town.
Massive wheels showing too much disc (Short skirt), lower than low profile tyres (brazilian landing strip), brighter than white corona rings or LED running lights (hooped earrings), blacked-out windows (fake tan), red leather (crotchless thong), white paint (dodgy foundation). Usually with a 2.0d engine and a driver with such an ego that they see fit to stare at you as you drive past just to see if you're looking at them. Stop it, you f

Recession White always looks bad..
White on a fastish/ sports car = fineWhite on a diesel BMW/Audi/Mercedes = attention seeker.
I am slightly biased but i think hot hatches(astra vsxr,ford focus st/rs,etc), M3's, Z4M's, RS4's look lovely in white.

- prefer them to silver/orange. All down to personal taste though.Going back to the OP's point, the Corsa they currently do with the 1.2 engine and black wheels looks a lot quicker than it actually is

If it's the styling that's the problem then what difference does the engine make?
If it's OK for a 400bhp car to look flash, why is it not OK for the 150bhp version to look the same? Why should people advertise their buying power by selecting a poverty spec exterior to go with their poverty spec engine? Why should they intentionally make their car look, in their mind, less desirable? I'd bet that the 400bhp doesn't need the fancy trim and tinted windows and expensive paint and 22in wheels and red leather any more than the 150bhp diesel version does.
Is the real problem here that it makes it harder to judge who you can blow off at the lights, and who is going to embarrass you?

No wonder Halfords are going into receivership, manufacturers are selling vulgar looking chav mobiles themselves!
I wouldn't actually refer to my girlfriend or myself as a 'chav' for being seen in 'a vulgar looking chav mobile' but thank you for your very important opinion. It would be a shame if halfords went bust. Where will I be able to get my ripspeed sunstrip and LED exhaust tip from now?
