Kit car emissions requirements
Discussion
I'm fairly sure this won't be a problem, but...
I have a 1995, factory built, kit car that I'm looking to put back on the road. It was registered on a Q-plate when new and driven up to about 2006.
I know the emissions requirements for new kits have tightened since then, but do they apply retrospectively or will I just be able to go and MOT it under the same rules (visible smoke only, I believe?) that I could in the noughties?

That makes sense. I doubted that even the government would make hundreds of cars retrospectively illegal, but seemed worth checking as I haven't tried to tax/MOT it for ages. The morons at the post office gave me a hard enough time with the Caterham because it was on an age-related plate...Presumably the same requirements would apply if I swapped the engine? A nice 1.6 Ford Sigma quite appeals to replace the old CVH if I keep it for any length of time.

Emmisions have been covered a few times, like here recently... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Woody, MOT emmisions are always to the level the car was first registered as (or in the case of kits, as they were at SVA/IVA) even if an engine change has taken place... unless the tester gets it wrong.
