Advice Needed please

Got the news today that i was dreading,my car has suffered a monumental catastrophic gearbox failure. It's going to cost me about 800 pound to fix (get a new one.) The car is a 04 renault clio 1.2L. Im looking to sell it as it is as i cant afford to spend that amount of money on it,the advice i need is where do i sell/take it? is it an ebay job. and what price shall i look at getting for it?

its covered just 47000 miles and is in good condition inside and outside.

Clio 1.2 gearbox £800, do you mean £80?

its a 3 door, dynamique version and its black.

and got quoted 700-800 pound to fix

or 350-450 to repair (they send it away to a specialist)plus 120 pound labour.

either option means i cant afford to spend that amount of money on it.

Clio gearboxes seem to sell for under £100 on Ebay.

really cant help you with who to take it to. Not too sure who would buy a car that doesn't run, as they might think its hiding some other faults as well.
Glasses guide gives it £1875 trade in price and that's in working condition. Advised retail is £2875 (again working correctly) That's top book with full service history.

My advice would be to find a second hand box (shouldn't be too difficult) and a friendly mechanic to help you fit it. Otherwise your probably looking at getting offers around the £1000 mark.

So it would seem the job can be done for £270 all in. Much cheaper than selling it for next to nothing.
