Fractured fuel line

Over the weekend I've had a strong smell of petrol coming from under the car, when I've checked I could see fuel dripping from underneath. Further checks and I have found the main fuel pipe fractured above the bell housing. Due to access can this be replaced by a normal fuel hose or does it have to be metal?
