Parking in central London - Where?

Thinking of maybe having a weekend in London. Hotel we've found is in Marble Arch.

Thing is, where can we leave the car that's safe and not going to require a small mortgage?

If the Hotel has no car park, drive to an outer london tube car park, park up and get the tube. (A fiver a day at Epping)

Not a very PH answer but get the train! You're not gonna want to use the car in London. Midnight drives around London are busy enough (I spent 3 hours driving last Saturday night from 23:30).

Any car park will cost a fortune. £6/hr in a pay and display near the Eye.

Underground parking at the one on Park Lane (at the edge of Hyde Park) is £26/day, and just outside the CC zone if that matters. Else there's Audley Square which is £10/day on weekends but a slightly further walk.

We need it for going on elsewhere afterwards.

I doubt we'll use it whilst we're there, although I've always fancied a midnight drive around the city.

Seriously, I only drive to London because I'm perverse. The last time I needed to go to an Embassy, I ended up parking in Uxbridge.

If its a weekend you only need to worry about 8.00am till 18.30 on Saturday as after that time and all day Sunday you can park for free on meter bays and on single yellows. The meters around Marble arch are £4.40 an hour but limited to 4 hours although a warden told me yesterday as long as you keep topping up on the phone you can stay all day-he could have been trying to lure me into a ticket though!

All the bays / resident parking / yellow lines around Victoria / St James Park / Pimlico are free on a weekend. Not many people know that.

Kensington and Chelsea is free after 1.30 in some areas, lots of nice quiet streets/squares just take a drive around gloucester road tube, south ken or sloan square tube and find somewhere quiet.

Park lane? Park up near lancaster gate, its 5 mins walk to park lane and parking is free from 12.00 on a saturday, we parked just around the corner from the tube station and its free until monday morning.
