320 coupe w124 1994---springs/discs/pads

my 1994 w124 320 coupe needs front and rear discs and pads , and may also need the front springs replaced

please could someone tell me where ( other than at a MB main dealer ) to source replacements of a decent quality , at a reasonable price

Euro Car Parts or Andrew Page Motor Factors, although for service parts like these, MB is not particularly expensive. To get the right springs, you may have to go to Merc as the many equipment permutations mean there are about 8 different spring possibilities.

I got a set of four springs from Merc. They were about £70 each. The bilstein dampers I got from www.motorsportworld.co.uk after checking the part on Bilstein's online catalogue here: http://www.bilstein.de/products/search-service/onl... I think they were about £100 each. The strut top mounts came from Andrew Page but I cannot recall the price. On the SEC, I got Sachs/Boge dampers from Andrew Page at about £45 each. I ought to have added, the rear dampers look easy to change (my TE has self-leveling rear suspension so there are no rear shocks). Make sure you get new fixings (the Bilsteins come with the correct nuts and bolts, a further saving on Merc) or use thread lock if re-using the old ones.

The only thing you have to be careful of is providing some support to the lower control arm when you take the damper out. This is because the damper is also the suspension extension stop. Without it, there is a risk that the spring might "pop" out and take your head off. The job requires a bit of brute force to loosen the lower fixings (I would recommend soaking the lower bolts with penetrating oil for half an hour or even overnight) and to reinstall the new damper. With the info available here you can be certain of ordering the correct parts. I prefer Andrew Page to Euro Car Parts although they do not have a website. It also seems to me that Euro's website is particularly useless as you cannot order parts by brand and part number.
