Is there a doctor in the house?
Discussion
The Mrs wants to start doing the Cambridge Diet, people will obviously have differing opinions on this, but bottom line is, it appears to work.
Problem is, our local GP is very much against it... so what we need is a doctor will sign on the dotted line to allow her to join.....
We are looking for someone not a million miles from Camberley / Sandhurst areas..
Cheers

ANOTHER FAD DIET????
Why you need a doctor to put her on it??
Cant you just join anyway, as that's what you want to do??
Also dieting is easy consume less calories, exercise more and you will loose weight!!! It's what all these fad diet are based around!!
Must remember to take a leaf out my own book though!!!

Of course it works, you just don't eat anything. That's why it works.
Your doctor won't sign it off because in his professional opinion, it's a crap idea.
PS She'll be fatter this time next year. It's a virtual guarantee on these kind of diets.

My mother used the Cambridge diet a few times. The "a few times" bit should give you a clue as to how good it is at keeping your weight down. A couple of years ago she decided to go about it a different way. She cut out a lot of fatty and/or sugary foods, made the portions a bit smaller but still enough to feel full and exercised a bit more (being in her late 60s that meant walking a bit more/further). The result? She is now much fitter as well as having lost more weight than she ever did with any fad diet and it's easy to keep the weight off, all she has to do is carry on eating & exercising sensibly!

Well done her! When people get older it's harder to keep up a good exercise regime due to being less mobile; things like yoga, pilates and tai chi are good alternatives to plain old walking. Sex is also good but I'm not offering.
I used to weigh 25+1/2 stone in my thirties and forties I am about 5'8 tall.
Grossly overweight and I was smoking and drinking heavily. NOT GOOD AT ALL.
Suicide mission really.
In my defence I had boundless energy and was having HUGE fun in every way possible. And being an Ostrich. And eating out 7 days a week, playing up at night all the daft things men get up to. I felt wonderful, looked ridiculous swanned about in a Range Rover (only car I could get in easily).
Then my back started playing up.
It was the weight. Began to see doctors and one of the many doctors who saw me over the years said to me '25 stone drinking and smoking NOT FOR LONG' and for some reason it stuck a chord in me.
So I severely reduced my intake of food particularly fast food and gave up Smoking and Drinking.
It was not easy but I realised there was really no choice.
I began to re educate myself in eating habits and take up gentle exercise. Initially I went swimming five days a week because, at 25 stone walking is very percussive and can be painful. Running etc was just impossible.
In time I took up riding bikes and walking good distances and gradually I lost weight until over a period of three years I had lost about ten stone so I then weighed 15+1/2 stones.
I have maintained (more or less) this weight consistently over the last fifteen years.
It can be done.
I do put weight on and off but never go above 16 stones.
I am still overweight but as my heart surgeon says no longer in the stratosphere in term of weight.
I am Diabetic, have various serious heath issues, heart, spine, Diabetic Neuropathy etc but essentially I am still able to enjoy my life.
If you abuse your body as I did there are consequences. But it was fun
I did enjoy every moment of the abuse.
Sadly it could not go on. Hence the change!
I would UNDOUBTEDLY have been dead if I had carried on as I was.
Gradual lifestyle change is the answer.
Fad diets make fortunes for the protagonists but healthy eating and exercise are the real answer.
Permanently.

OP I have sent you a PM.
On the subject of dieting, its all well and good stating do healthy eatinga and exercise.
My wife has done a Fad diet for the last 12 months and has lost a lot of weight she has not reached her goal weight yet, but is now only a few pound away! I have opted for the healthy eationg option and exercise and have only lost half of what she has in the same period. Our GP was supportive of what she was doing to lose weight. She is now a between size 8/10 and 5'11" Only time will tell if she keeps the weight off but she is motivated to keep it off.
I have taken the healthy eating option but it is harder getting the level of protein in your system on a daily basis but so easy going over on the Carbs.
