Would you buy an ex Land Rover Experience Car?
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I'm on the verge of buying my first RRS and would really appreciate your help! The dealer told me that it was previously a land rover fleet car but wasnt able to tell me exactly what that meant and I am now wondering if its an ex Land Rover Experience car.
Is there any way of knowing for sure if its is an ex LRE car?
If so, should I avoid it?
If you think I should go for it if the price is right, what % discount versus a non-LRE car would be reasonable?
This is my first time in any 4x4 let alone a RRS so I really dont know what to do!
I've done a search and cant find an previous threads on this subject so if there are any please would you post the links up. Thanks!

We had a RRS at work to take to airshows......in the back of the aircraft (and no, I'm not joking)....so although some "fleet" cars lead an easy life, bear in mind others can be pretty tired or knocked about.
Pity the poor sod who ended up with the one Clarkson pitched against a Chally 2.
Demonstrators and fleet cars are all pretty young so a bit of heavy duty work won't actually harm them, but why get one that's been pushed when next week there could be one of the same age that's never left the black top.
If it were me, I'd want to know exactly what it's been used for.
Oh and just remembered....years ago I nearly bought a used-approved classic Mini (one of the last real Minis bulilt). Looked like a real gem, very fresh paint (keep that in mind), previous single owner was "Unipart" on the logbook, four years old, less than 10k on the clock....turns out it had been used at trade shows by Unipart to demonstrate repair techniques....by reversing it in to a lamp post or similar, then carrying out the repair work as a demo.

One of my clients used to have the contract to prep teh Land Rover demo fleet, which includes teh RRE cars. The specc always was that they had to be put back into showroom spec, no matter how damaged or roughed up. so don't worry
What upset me was the 10 Range Rover prototypes they had which were going to be crushed because the exhaust brackets weren't right for some reason. No matter how I pleaded they wouldn't let me swap one for my 15 year old classic!

The only sure way of telling if it is an ex-LRE car is to call the LRE centres and see if it was one of theirs. A call to LR customer services might turn up an answer too. However, if the dealer has purchased direct from LR, IIRC they should have been told that it has been used off-road.
As the LRE cars are used both on & off-road, they are generally well looked after with more frequent visits to the workshops. Have a good look underneath, scuffs, scrapes & dents will be a fairly decent indicator that it has had a heavy life off-road.
That said... If it has been used off-road, then it is just doing what it has been designed for.
As for how much... Well, I'll leave that for you to decide how much it would be worth but as long as it comes with a decent warranty, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Oooohhhh.... Just thought of something which would help you identify if it was an LRE car:
Does it have the active rear diff fitted? (The only way of telling is getting underneath looking at the diff to see if it has the extra gubbins on it.)
The LRE cars are HSE spec, Zermatt Silver, black interior and active rear diff.
As the active diff rarely gets fitted to a regular car, it's quite a good indicator that it was an off-road car.
