Currently on the hunt for an S3 and stumbled across this
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...
The trader discloses it is 'HPI clear' but, after a little digging http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Just to warn anyone thinking about the car to be cautious and always google the registration to see what comes up!
Cheers

That's perfectly reasonable. It will only be on the HPI register if it was written off as a total loss by the insurance company. If it was found fairly quickly, that might not have happened.
I thought as soon as it's recovered it would have the marker on the HPI check saying 'Stolen recovered' ? kambites said:

No, cars only go onto the HPI register if they've been written off. If it is subsequently recovered it will show as stolen recovered (category x)
If it was stolen and recovered by the police before the insurer paid out (eg stolen overnight and found the following day dumped) it won't show as anything other than clear, unless it is damaged and then written off.
