Le Mans Classic 2012

Have been going to Le Mans 24hr for many, many years but will go to Classic next year for the first time.

Re camping, I guess that some camp sites are closed due to reduced numbers. Usually go to a site by the Porsce Curves, as the others are rammed.

Is it possible/easier to get to sites nearer to the Technopark and new stadium/Tram terminus for this event?

I'd try the usual tour operators and see what they're offering.

Last year (2010) I think all the popular areas were open.

Looking for a 5* site with free shuttle, there is one out there but can't remember which it is :-)

We went with Le Mob last year - bloody excellent off site place, only downside is it's 20 mins plus away, so a struggle to go back at night.

stopped on karting nord last year. Only 20% full with the same amount of toilets/showers , no ques for a crap and only a 5 min wait for a shower

Stayed at MB last year, sounds like it was busier than Karting but still no major queuing for toilets, shower was a little more depending on when you wanted one. The pitch sizes were normal but there was some spaces so defiantly not full. Much better than the usual battles at BSJ or Blue during the June 24.

PS: I like a good drink and loud music, as and when, plus i would probably end up getting nicked if some toss pot pissed on or damaged my car...................so i do not need it...............shush !!!!!!!!!!!!!

They also arrange the parade laps which were an unforgettable part of the experience.

Can anyone advise how the parade laps work? When I was there last year, we saw the parade lap cars queuing up and it immediately went on the 'must do' list. But do you do a lap, then come back into the holding area, then go out and do another lap, or is it two laps straight off? It's my Dad's 65th birthday next year and I'd really like us to share the laps, but don't think it would be the best idea to pull over half way down the start-finish straight to do a driver change...!

Think I'm correct in saying that parade laps can be organised through a car club or one of the tour organisers.
In 2010, I used "Fast Track tours". The owner organised the parade laps for the TVR club - the French TVR guys worked with fast track and the ACO to make it happen.

Definitely worth doing, although we started behind a pace car....he was soon forced to increase the pace ;-). Most people who wanted to driver change did so at Mulsanne corner. Some numpties did not pull off onto the run-off area though!! Caused a few buttock clenching moments!!

No, just the parade laps. Ian of FTT was running a complete package service, but our group organiser had already arranged our camping package through Speed Chills. Very good set-up with Speed Chills, would recommend them. Having said that, Ian seems a very straight-up guy, and I would imagine also has a well organised package.

Ian did do a very good package including a meal for all that wanted it so every one could get know each other in the group, very easy bloke to deal with, I will book with Ian for 2012.

I thought he only started that last year, after leaving Grandstand Motorsports? I say that only because I was in the middle of talking with him about Angouleme (when he was at GM), when he mentioned he was leaving and gave me his new details

So you have had a good experience? Where was the accommodation? There is no info on his website

I will be going for the Classic again as the provisional dates for the main event clash (again) with other commitments, but secretly I have my fingers crossed that 9/10 June will become 16/17 June. I usually rely on ebay now to arrange my June trip at the last minute but for the Classic I would strongly recommend Travel Destinations (www.lemansrace.com) with whom I have travelled to Le Mans since they started in the late 90s. At the 2010 Classic they arranged a private camping area inside the bend at Tertre Rouge (Hunaudieres?) which was very well run and was close to the all-important tram for enjoying the city centre on Friday and Sunday evening. Travel Destinations are also able to arrange the parade laps on the Saturday morning.
