I dropped the oil and sump and there was a lot of bearing material in there.

The main bearings are shot so i have started to remove the engine competely to remove the crank. We tried to remove a main cap to take a look but they are proving stubborn with the engine in the car.

Eann Whalley has just developed a nice single turbo kit on his 450 Chim and with only 7psi currently makes 330 @ wheels.
My engine should take 1 bar easy so would be about 440@ wheels
I had a ride in Eann's Chim last week - and its bloody quick- very impressive. My engine should take 1 bar easy so would be about 440@ wheels

So much so that we ended up checking out whether the kit could be modified to fit nicley under the bonnet of a RV8 Tuscan racer -which it will
.Looks rather a lot more damage for a 'short' oil starvation TBH.
Makes one wonder how much farting around with the comp test fiasco etc.. messed things up.
Try & take your time this time around, including not making plans to fix things back in before you have inspected the whole engine for damage - sounds to me like you could be being a 'bot rash' again Derek!(dyslexic folks will get that i/o error teehehe). A reasonable plan for running it in might be a good idea if you can accept the precedences that it dictates.
Are you going to have the pulley rebalanced this time as well BTW, in case you didn't bother with that in your rush either?

I think i have to admit the oil starvation may have been for a couple of miles or more on the motorway.Makes one wonder how much farting around with the comp test fiasco etc.. messed things up.

Yes the pulley will be checked for balance and a full inspection will take place.
Derek, thats a shed load of material been spat out... seems I may have missed earlier posts on it, you mention oil starvation, do you know why ? Something must have failed/got blocked big time if it occurred at motorway cruising speeds (I mean presumably not under heavy load at the time). Good luck with the rest of the strip down, hope you don't find any more expensive damage..... R.

Some complete idiot didnt fit the spacer behind the pulley bolt washer and on the cars maiden voyage drove 35 miles fine. The pulley had moved forward slowly and the oil pump drive gear also moved from the pump hence losing all pressure. I may have drove e few miles before noticing the light, then the gauge but the damage was done.I was recovered home, replaced the spacer and all seemed fine but i didnt have time to check properly and took the risk heading to the pod the following week.
The car made it to Warrington, had the fuelling tweaked by Eann, then drove mainly on A roads avoiding very slow moving taffic on the M6.
So about 180 miles from home as i came off the M42 onto the M40 the main bearings 'let go' hence this thread
