Bizarrely, after 17 years of car ownership, I've just come to having my first brake repairs done. I've had front and rear pads and discs done on my Vectra.

What is the recommended way of bedding them in? Long gentle braking? Short gentle? Short hard?

Thanks.

Drive it normally.

Just remember for the next 50 miles that they might not work as well, or they might fade quicker.

Pads now bed in very quickly.

^ This, in my opinion. Use them normally and avoid big stops from high speeds for the first hundred miles or so. I've never heard any of this "stop from 50 then from 60..." etc stuff, even in race paddocks.

Thanks gents. Not sure where the most suitable place for the stop starting would be. Might g for nice and steady for the first 50 miles or so. See how they feel.

My viper ACR owners manual has two options

1) Street bed in in - gentle braking for the first 200 miles
2) race bed in procedure, before each track event or if uneven pad deposits on rotors - 10 stops back to back at 0.8g (just before abs) from 60mph - 10 mph. you may smell burning after 6 stops and some green fade after 8 stops. once complete drive without stopping or using brakes until cool.

This is for brembo two piece rotors and pads on an ACR Viper. For a vectra i would go with the gentle braking for 200 miles, you'll probably cook your brakes before the 10th stop on the race bed in procedure
