In March, whilst I was stationary in a car park, an old boy reversed into me in his A4 (it was my Birthday so not the best day for it to happen!) My car had a new door and of course most of the OS painted I order to blend it. All credit to the Sytner bodyshop in Nottingham as they did an excellent job in my opinion.

Fast forward to tonight. I'm sat at home and here a nasty crunch outside the house. "Oh dear" thinks I "someones had a bump". I look out the window and guess what? Yep. My neighbour in his Honda Jazz has reversed into the back of my car - hard. I'll need a new rear bumper and quarter panel at least - possibly a bootlid but I'm no expert.

I'm in the pub now trying to calm down.

I would say look on the bright side, you've both times been aware of the smack and been able to claim off the Third Party insurance. You haven't come back to your car in a car park to discover the door smacked in and had to claim off your own policy..

Got to say I agree with this. Twice my brother has returned to his car to find someone has either placed a meaty scratch down the side of it or banged into it. Both times the offender was nowhere to be seen.

Probably doesn't make you fell much better, but I guess it could be worse...

I've 2, 100% non-fault accidents. How on earth can my insurers penalise me? I'm sorry, I just don't get that.

Love the triggers broom comment, brilliant. The car has cost me at least £2k in 18 months (2 rear diffs - must be made of chocolate) without these accidents so I think it's both a lemon and jinxed. It's off to a new home when Sytner have worked there magic again, I'm sick of it now.

Can you try to claim for the increase in insurance premiums against your neighbour's insurance in addition to the damage?

They do penalise you, the same way they penalise people with protected no claims bonuses too.

It does always make me smile when those who have protected no claims bonuses feel smug, if you make a claim your premium will increase even though your no claims are intact. Insurance companies are not charities. Infact the protected ncb is a big con.

It makes no difference whose insurer you claim from.

Your premium will be effected, statistically even if it's not your fault you are more likely to have another claim whether it's your fault or not.

And I guess they are right as you've had it happen to you again.

Really bad luck though, I'm getting to the stage now where I just think what's the point in caring for your car as all it takes is someone who doesn't care to come and damage it.

Yep - apparently those in a recent accident are more likely to have an accident.

Another stey tactic by the insurance cartel. Get driven into, and you pay for it anyway...

Yeah how it should work is if a claim is non fault it shouldn't effect your premium.

That's why so many people drive off in minor dings if they feel no one has seen them, or if they do stop they prefer not to involve insurance.

Because they can, you're a risk in their eyes. You would even be penalised if you paid for the repair yourself but still reported it.

And by the way try not to have a 3rd non-fault accident any time soon and if you do have one report it as your fault.

Yeah exactly.

I've known some people to inform their insurers of an incident, then decide they will pay for it themselves thinking that this will not effect their premium, but it does.

God I hate car insurers....

I honestly feel it's a legal scam.

Maybe I'm stupid, but how does it work that you're statistically more likely to make another claim in future because of someone backing into your car (for example) in the past?

How the hell does that work? Surely the liklihood is technically always the same, it effectively "starts again" after an incident?

indeed, by their logic (and unfortunately statistics to back it up), people who claim are:
1. putting their car in places where it is more likely to get hit (i.e. you drive in busy city centers etc)
2. more likely to claim again - some people will avoid claiming, some won't - this marks you as a "claimer"

It doesn't work. It's just another chance for them to make some extra money out of you. Nothing more. Of course they would never admit that.
