C220 d servicing
Discussion
I'm thinking of buying a 57 plate c220 diesel with 75k on the clock. It has a fsh but I'm not sure of the service intervals and when the next is due and what will need doing. Also, is there're anything I should be looking out for on the car? Are here any known problems I should know about?
Thanks

It'll have ASSYST but I'm unsure when these went from mileage dependent only to fixed annual servicing/mileage dependent (whichever occurs 1st) - the easy way to tell when it's due a service is to scroll through the menu on the onboard computer and it'll tell you in miles how long you have to go until the next service, and whether it'll be an A, B etc, however if it's fixed annual then even if it's showing miles left until the next service it'll come up as due when a year from the last service occurs (I hope that makes sense!).
At that mileage it should've had the ATF changed once at around 40k miles if it's an auto, usual brake fluid every 2 years, everything else will depend on whether the last and next services were/are minor or major - if you can find that out this website will help you http://lite.servicemercedes.co.uk/

Just to elaborate further on the ASSYST if it's the older mileage dependent only servicing it's based on the type of journeys you do, driving style, number of cold starts and various other factors, I used to get 15/16000 miles out of my 2006 C180k which was around 14 months worth of driving, the mileage until next service constantly varied on the onboard computer.
At some point in the past few years Mercedes added fixed annual to this (which my current E220 cdi has), I've just had a service and it reads 15,500 miles until next service, however if I've only done 12,000 by next July the onboard computer will flag up for an annual service anyway.
HTH.

Not that I'm aware of, by '57 plate the rust issues of earlier years had been attended to with galvanising, and build quality was much improved over the earlier models, I had my 2006 car for 3 years and it was rock solid. As far as I know the only things to watch are auto gearbox problems which can be prevented with ATF and filter changes.
I haven't heard of any known issues with that engine, it was used in the w210 e-class and sprinter vans also - have a look on autotrader or similar and you'll find loads of them with 150k plus miles on them, and the odd interstellar 250k mile car, so I'd take from that they're very strong units.
