Mate wanted me to help look at an S5 at a 'prestigious' London showroom today, with view to PX ing his Lotus Exige and paying cash for the difference. Car was a 58 plate with 2 owners at 28K. Sadly it was raining when we arrived, but the gods buggered off to wash the roads somewhere else after an hour, so we could check the car over. 2 tyres almost on the wearlines and as the paint dried out, it was noticed that the lower flanks of the rear panels had both been painted badly and even showed laquer lift by the rear light on one side. Deep stonechips on wings and a nasy one just under the wiper. Rear bumper had gouges too. We were worried about why the rear panels had been painted and badly.Car had been mopped badly and all the plastics and gaps were filled with filler polish, which looked dreadfull.Seat also had an entry exit scuffing . Dealer said he would get them rear wings repainted and 2 tyres fitted too.
So after checking the car and thinking about a test drive, as they promised to resolve the worst issues, we thought about sitting down and discussing the price. The exige trade in was a sensible price and we were told there was no budge on the S5 at all, if all was sorted.
It was only when we asked about MOT due, that he said 'oh yeah, thats due in 2 months, so will do that' and when we asked about warranty, he offered the standard 3 months trader warranty. This would run with the Audi warranty, so basically not worth anything.No interest in repairing to even touch in the deep stonechips or deep marks.
This surprised us completely, that even a dealer selling a 28K car, would show no interest in making at least a years warranty on a car and said to make it a year added £680 on the cost of the car. So we said no thanks, nice car but something doesnt tick right.Weirdly, the dealer text us within 30 seconds of leaving saying he will try and do a better deal on monday...........
I know it was a prestigious dealership full of 100k plus cars, but to him 28K was just loose change. The HPI check and lombard check showed numerous credit checks on the car within the last month and was also shipped down from Cheshire, no doubt because it would sell up there, due to people seeing the problems.
So back to the drawing board and a wasted afternoon to be honest.........anyone know a decent S5 coupe upto £30k for sale?

, Also from a Audi Main dealer. The one we looked at was sprint blue and was a lovely colour. We did 120 miles in the exige today and that just wore me out, let alone travelling to other dealers around the country LOL
He made an offer on a car last week at Audi in Newbury, but someone pipped him to that...........must be a manual car.
I dont think he wants a car with cat history or higher mileage.

^^^That's the same dealer I bought my car from and I can vouch for their professionalism.

your friend shouldnt have any issue selling his exige privately theres a french guy that lurks on Pistonheads sourcing Exige's to drive back to France and convert to Left Hand Drive.
I recommend he sells is privately maximises his return and gets a slightly smarter S5 from someone more trustworthy.

I sold my Elise to that frenchman. He has only advertised on Seloc to sell it. I advised him to stick it on here. Thing is, he is a very busy guy and wanted to get it sorted today. He only has one weekend a month free from working.We were advised the car was ready other than a tax disc and we found a post office which would have been open to buy that if we could have done.
He is researching tonight for more possible cars for Sunday, although not sure of a dealer open on Sunday at the moment...........

I'm with other poeple here - why bother wasting time talking figures on a car that is clearly sub-standard instead of walking away and finding another? As I've posted elsewhere, biggest mistake people make in buying a used car is believing the one they are looking at is the only one of its kind that exists anywhere.
And a £28k car that a dealer will only put a 3mth warranty on?
A quick search on the Audi Approved has S5 starting at £22k:

Yes, he wants an S5. His boss has an RS5 , which he was smitten on but out of range. We looked at the car and thought that the paint could be sorted. We couldnt find anything wrong with the rest of the car, lifted carpets, check chassis legs etc and all seemed straight, so we considered the paintwork to initially be superficial, but repairable. We also talked figures to see if the dealer would offer sensible money for the Exige. He was offered £20k for this , which was the same against the S5 , he missed out on from an Audi dealer last week on a £35k car, not £28 like this one.
We just wanted to see what the deal could have been, with regards to what a dealer was prepared to offer. We were thinking of heading away by this point anyway, but thought while we were here to try and see what we could make him crack at for price and a deal as such.
