Wouldnt mind some advice guys if you can help.

Going to look at an E46 M3 with only 9,000 miles on the clock next week from an BMW main dealer. They've got it on at £22,995 which seems pricey to me even if it is mint? What would you say the top end is currently for E46's? I was thinking 20k max?

Im not sure how much i'll be able to haggle...!

For that money you can almost get an E92.

Guessing you mean the blue one at Hexagon, you should run a quick search on here for a snapshot of views on their pricing policy. By all accounts, there's very little chance of you getting much off it.

The mileage is so low they probably feel justified in charging "collectors' piece" rates for it.

On the flip side, it's on non-original alloys (even if they're real CSLs, it won't have left the factory on them), it is pretty low-spec and has silvery grey leather. So hardly the paradigm e46.

So the question is: what do you want? An ultra low mileage car to keep as a garage queen - in which case I'd hold out for a better example - or a car to use and enjoy - in which case you should be able to get a very good car privately for £15k with some warranty that can be extended if that is a concern.

You can afford to be very picky with e46s as I see it at the moment even to the colour and trim level. There are a lot of great examples on the market at the moment that aren't selling at very resonable prices. I went to see a 55 plate with a good spec with all it's history and 75k for £11k - I only went just to see if it was for real.
If you've got 20k just wait until a slightly higher mileage e90 comes up!!

£4-5k overpriced.

For that money:

If you want an M3, buy an E92

If you want a low depreciating icon, buy a CSL

As said above, if you want a garage queen to put in a carcoon and sell in 10 years time without turning a wheel, by all means (but not at THAT price!!)

If however you want to drive it and enjoy it I'd get something with about 30-40k on the clock and your EXACT spec, there is just sooooo much choice about

Good luck with the hunt, I've had mine 2 years+ and still love it to bits (80k miles later!)

Museum piece, yes. Everyday car, no.

You can get a better equipped, albeit higher miled, car for 8-10k less.

Way overpriced in current market. I've also had some experience trying to deal with Hexagon and was a complete waste of my time.

Plenty of choice out there at the moment.

Thats far too much money. Hexagon really do mark up the cars they buy to the extreme.

They also have an S54 M Coupe in LSB. I looked at that as a private sale and walked away due to it having had some poor paintwork done. Price was £19k. Hexagon snapped it up and are now retailing it for £30k. Piss take.

Have a word with Munich Legends, 4 star classics or Classic heros all of whom specialise in M cars and have good contacts to locate your an ideal car.

Ive just bought a very high spec 2002 E46 M3 with just one owner and 25k miles FBMWSH. I paid £9800. Private sale.

BMW approved cars tend have the brakes, tyres and so on replaced if they fall below a required level during their inspection. Brakes and tyres on an E46 can amount to a couple of grand's worth of work, so you can at least allow them maybe that much along with their margin. It will also probably come with a warranty which is a couple of grand too.

But 22k is VERY high - what year is it? I've put a deposit down on a 2004 with 38k miles and every option I can think of priced at £14,995!

Dont like where your buying your tyres and brakes from. Try £1400. I had 4 contis, and all discs/ pads fitted for this. A main dealer price maybe.

To echo the thoughts of above.. 23k for that car is way over the odds.

But thats Hexagon for you.. You'd do better looking elsewhere.

This is a discussion about a car from a main dealer is it not?

The discussion is on the possible reason for the high selling price. I'm suggesting they have changed those parts and will need to make it back again. At their standard parts and labour price of course.
