I had a though on Thursday night that I'd never dreampt of having

Is owning my Griff really worth all the agro ?

Thankfully it didn't last for long but suffice to say I am Mr Pi55ed of Pi55ville at the moment

Having only just come out of the end of a blown piston scenario ( for the 2nd time ) As clearly my engine building skills were clearly not good enough last time for an RV8, I took the option to utilise the services of one of the countrys finest engine builders and one of the most renown engine tuners to sort my problems once and for all

Well that lasted for less than 2 weeks and 4 actual drives ( all to work and back ) frown

Something mechanical has given way again and my 300 hp ( well 297 to be precise ) has turned once again turned into a most beautiful sack of useless ste

Haven't opened her up yet to investigate but it doesn't sound / feel good

Happilly admit to pushing my tyres and suspension to the limit but not one for revving / abusing the pants off it

Maybe won't see you at the Growl after all frown

Moose (with no TVR Stuffing)

I think I'd be getting the block geometry checked this time Andy, they do distort & it's not something that many builders will bother with. Only a few engineers that have funky laser borers that spin off the mains line to check true bores + decks all at 90 degs AFIK.

Moose, without being overly nosey, who built it? Just heard a few tales recently.

I assume you will not want to post it here, but a PM would be nice.

Hi Matey

I'm not sure if it will get returned to the builders as potentially the failure may be nothing to do with the works he carried out

To be fair and cease any misinterpretation or accusations it may be down to a re-used engine component rather than the works

I would love to have had a full set of forged pistons inserted last time but out of my reach at present.

Potentially another costly lesson learned. How many more before I get a reliable performance car ?

I'll delve in soon and at least diagnose the problem prior to any further comments

The stand may come in handy as I have precisely feck all in the re-build budget and also not in the right frame of mind at the moment

Now .... about that LS3 conversion

My Holden gets driven just as hard as the Griff and has been faultless for 3 years

I'll keep you posted buddy

moose, on the way back from buying my first Griff the oil light came on at tick over. Sump off to find shells showing pick up. Spoke to Paul Austin who said the best place to look for tell tale damage is the top, take out the cam and check bearings for wear one side more that the other, mine had ejected the centre bearing! Full rebuild showed a distorted block which i imagine if i or anybody else who didnt check would have soon been cursing another buggered engine..others have said this is crapola but i have the pics of the bearing hanging outyikes
Dont lose the faith dude.....smile

Andy,
You seem to be having even worse luck than me. If you've just had it rebuilt (and paid good money for it) then it has to go back to them as the rebuild isn't right, at no cost to you. They'll have to do it again. If you'd done it yourself then you've got no recourse.
Good luck and hope you get it sorted.
Hope to see you at the Growl.

Oh Andy, I'm so sorry to hear this. It's about time you had a touch of good luck with that car of yours.
I have a little Bue car sitting in the garage that needs a run out. I'm not sure if it would be welcome at a growl (too many horses wink ) but i am excused driving for a few weeks, so give me a call if you need a V8 for a couple of days

There are some things which just aren't visible. A firm I know of inserts liners and does decking work. It's not until they jig the engine up into some very expensive kit that things which are 'out of true' become visible. I think they said rangerover blocks may suffer the worst. With matters like this there is always speculation but sometimes a diagnosis is nigh on impossible.

... and a grey one too presumeably smile

You really are a very very nice man ( or very very stooopid smile You know I can be trusted )

I am currently working on a plan to have a couple of days away in the Cotswolds in the camper and stop off at Ettington on the way home

If this doesn't come to fruition then I'll be in touch for either set of keys

Cheers Matey

Moose

My sentiments exactly.
If it was fully built for you then it should go back to them under warranty.
