I know kitchen cabinets tend to come in a fixed range of sizes e.g 150, 300, 400, 500, 600 wide, but what about heights?

I'm looking at replacing a kitchen that has a tall larder cupboard. but there appears to be a difference in the height of the one already fitted and the new one I'm looking at.

I think there are three standard sizes. Follow this link, download the kitchen carcass brochure (under section K) and that should help you out. If you go to the last page of the pdf there's a diagram showing the standard sizes.

Ikea do a range of units including 'extra tall' that you can build larder cupboards etc from.

Ready made kitchens come in standard sizes.

But there are some makers who will provide whatever sizes are required smile

The advantages of custom sizing can be considerable, and the smaller the kitchen the more important it can become. For instance, supposing the sink wall (usually the one with the window in it) is 2650mm long. Now lets say the sink chosen needs a 600 unit, and there is a standard size dishwasher which is another 600mm. Then there is a corner which uses 650mm. That leaves 850mm. What would a designer using ready made units do? Two 400 units and a 50mm filler, probably.

But a custom maker would offer an 850mm pan drawer unit instead, and large drawers provide more usable space than do hi-line or drawerline units.

Another example would be where there is, say 1365mm available for wall units. Ready made stuff that would probably be one 500, 2 400mm units and a 65mm filler. He might even sneak the 2 400mm units in as an 800mm double (which would be cheaper for him, and which means you can't choose which way the doors open). A custom maker would offer 3 x 455mm units, and that would look MUCH better.

Obviously a custom maker would be able to offer different heights as well as different widths. That can mean cupboards tall enough to reach the ceiling, meaning no awkward out-of reach dust traps and more storage space.

Thanks all. I've ordered everything and am now just mulling over glass splashbacks.
