I know the 3.7 is the most pointless and un economical of the range, and the mileage is 127k, but surely for £4k you will get what you pay for so to speak.

This seems much too low for the amount of car.

I had a 4.2 d3. Lovely cars, but I wouldnt touch one without Audi warranty. Mine had quite a few electrical issues which cost quite a bit to sort out.

No im going to hold out for a 4.2, with under 80k on the clock (providing timing belt/water pump have been done)

4k is stupidly cheap. I have a real soft spot for A8's and had I not needed to combine wafting with off road ability I'd probably have one parked on the drive right now.

Might be worth looking at taking out an independent warranty to cover something major going wrong, but either way, there is 12 months luxury motoring on offer in a car which I think still cuts the mustard today in terms of looks and image. Fuel cost will be wallet mullering though, I struggled to reach 18mpg in my RS4, whilst my current 2.7 Twin hovers around the 25mpg mark. Can't see the big A8 going much more than high teens/low 20's, even on a good day. something that you might want to consider.

I've been mulling over the idea of chopping both my cars for an S8 with the 5.2 V10 but can't find any info on them whatsoever.

I took a 4.2 out yesterday in Stockport and the grunt of the V8 sits all over the flat 6 of an e39. The gas pedal is also very light so isn't hard to shift. Once i can find on with a working MMI and good mileage i will be investing for sure.

I would say the price is probably about right. Last night I watched top gear where they showed a new Nissan at £6995, and then showed what could be got for the same money Second hand. Seems the big smokers drop value like a sinking ship and they had a Bentley, an 02 Merc and a Beautiful 850 BMW.
Big smoker barges which new cost mega bucks fetch nothing and I would knock em down from 4k.
Interestingly, they took the cars to a shopping area and asked the public what they thought they were worth and most said 12 to 20k each. There seems to be a misconception about big engined cars and if you can afford to run one, go with it, you'll get alot of car for your money.
