Full body off respray prices?

Anyone ever done a full body off respray. Am thinking of sourcing a car and brining it back to 'as new'
Really don't like seeing masking lines so would look to totally strip it down.
Anyone recommend anyone who can prep a pre-stripped down shell and paint at a reasonable cost?

Cant see why you would want to remove the body??
The engine compartment, wheel arches are blacked so need a line some where.
Id just remove all panels lights wipers etc mask apertures and behind the sills cut out glass if your that fussy and paint as any decent body shop dose
Agree it does seem like a bit of overkill. My reason is purely I hate seeing signs of a car having been painted. I've yet to see a car thats been resprayed that didn't show signs of overspray somewhere. But as you say, I am fussy although I prefer the word perfectionist The engine compartment, wheel arches are blacked so need a line some where.

TVR painted the body only after it had been fitted to the chassis when it was new so it does seam like over-kill. Also, Surface and Design advised me not to paint a body off the chassis as there is a risk of stress-cracking during the lift and once the body is mounted. For my 3000M project they recommended that I fit the body and let it 'settle' onto the chassis before painting.

That seems very logical on a GRP car.Paul
Only other thing to comment is that these cars are 10 years old now , the outriggers and chassis is impossible to get to in areas and therefore maybe starting to show signs of corrosion. If you look at cerbs (which have a harder life) they are a few years older and very prone to it. Or are the T cars better.
Martin any pictures with the body off? What was the chassis like?

You cannot get the car back to "as new" without body off chassis paint/ coatingReally don't like seeing masking lines so would look to totally strip it down.

Would recommend Option 1 Sports Cars near bromsgrove, they did my front end and it really was superb. Not sure on costs off full repsray but they specialise in GRP cars, have done plenty of TVR's, the guy who owns it is superb and is obsessive about doing a good job...which is what you want really!!
Getting overspray on things is from bad masking, if they cant mask they shouldnt be holding a can of paint.paint in unwanted places will easy rub off with thinners wet rag if needed be.
Definatley lots of flex in removing and fitting a body to chassis, also you have a good shot at the panel gaps when on chassis and no chance off the chassis (a lot are total joke from the factory)
Do rethink your plans and paint on the chassis.
I painted my 1st cerby in and out many years ago better than the factory paint job, thers a big difference between doing a job for cash and the love of it
Ill see if i can dig out some old pics of tvrs in the striped/ masked stage.and a bare chassis

Interesting, they did my G33 and I don't agree.itiejim said:
Another vote for painting with the body on. I have just done a colour change on mine and would challenge anyone to find evidence of the previous colour or masking. The job just needs to be done properly.
Ditto, and I'd suggest talking to Greg @ Powers Bodyshop who has just done mine.Gassing Station | Tuscan | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
