explorer engine

just wondered if anyone had attempted to fit the 4.0 explorer engine yet, it has been mentioned in dispatches a few times but seems to be neglected in favour of the 24v cossie lump ? I know it can be a bit of tempramental engine but as far as i understand it should fit and have the same gearbox options?

Not sure about the gearbox as most of these engines had the auto transmissions, I don't think there rev high about 5500 to 6000 and were heavy units, Still it would be a nice winter project

yes as I understand most cossie granadas were auto too?

OHC so possibly taller than an OHV which might give space issues. Pretty sure that no Explorer or Ranger (US fit) were manual so auto only.

Think I read somewhere about different crankshaft bolt pattern so fitting flywheel and clutch might mean a bit of work?

Can't see they'd be noticeably heavier if based on the same block and the 2.9 isn't exactly a "screamer" when it comes to revs?
