I know a few people who have said it's amazing. I'm not usually into medical dramas (loved scrubs though wink )

So...is it any good? My mrs bought series 1 and I can't decide whether to watch it with her or spend evenings drinking whisky and buying st on ebay.

I think it's very good, right up to the last episode of the latest series.

it takes a while to get into, I'd say watch the first 7 episodes and see what you think.

Series 1 is fantastic and it gets better year on year (as long as you can tolerate the formulaic template/backbone). One of my favourite shows smile

Agreed, very well-written and acted show, a cut above most of the formulaic American stuff. They do keep it fresh and aren't afraid to play around with the main characters - the first few episodes of season six spring to mind. I'd definitely say give it a go, if nothing else because it's fun to see some small-time Limey in a huge Yank show blowing everyone away.

It's really good, if surprisingly repetitive for a show of such intelligence. There are running stories that have been part of the show since the start and season long stories which are always really good, but on a show-by-show basis it usually follows the same format.

House is told to look as someone who's sick. House refuses and dismisses it as something normal that has been missed by the ineptitude of a faceless colleague after hearing the symptoms for about 9 seconds

"Ahhh but, this heart attack sufferer is only 14!"

House is suddenly interested,

The poor patient is mis diagnosed about 3 times, usually resulting in far more suffering and chance of death than they arrived with after House orders something dangerous, or unethical. He fights with his Boss about it, they often seem to lose their Kidneys or Liver because of this, this is brushed over as somthing that can be easily fixed with a transplant.

"It’s not Lupus"

The Patient lied, or forgets to mention so seemingly insignificant fact, but House orders 3 or sometimes 4 no doubt highly paid, super intelligent Doctors (who are usually also talented Surgeons) to perform a bit of break and enter to search the patients home for clues (usually fungus based)

Hey presto, armed with this info House fixes it.

The cast moves around, and the characters are allowed to grow and change, no ones perfect and most importantly there isn't some magic reset at the end of each episode which means next weeks episode everything is back to normal.

It is very good, but as mentioned above too formulaic, which switching some of the cast didn't really change.

I have Seasons 1-5 on dvd.

Thanks all, we've watched 3 or 4 episodes and it's good.

Laurie definitely steals the show.

Lots of West Wing actors (Sam's hooker, the black guy from the Santos campaign, one of Toby's aides.)

Wasn't there one episode where they took the piss out of that? Something like instantly dismissed it as it never bloody is lupus and it turned out to be exactly that.

One of my favourite tv shows, coming to the final few episodes of my season 6 box set and still love it.

Hugh Laurie does a fantastic job.

So it's just me that got thoroughly bored with all the 'background' stuff then? All the relationship issues, all the stuff with his leg and the vicodin addictions, putting his 'mate' Wilson through crap that NO-ONE would put up with in real life.

Just got sick of it, was half hoping House would die at the end of the last series.

I don't want to know the character flaws, I don't want to know who is shagging who and who isn't, I just want the medical mystery bit and the solution at the end.

It's a prime time drama, not a documentary tongue out
