Another what car thread! £8/9Kish to spend.

Hi guys, i appologise for another one of these threads, but differing input really helps narrow down opinions. Im 22, 5 years NCB, currently own a Civic type R FN2, which im bored with and looking to PX for something else, i don't want something which is only marginally quicker than the Type R. Heres my critera,

Around £8Kish to spend (the less the better ofc)
Practicality is something i don't need or care about (to a reasonable extent!)
I want something quick, Sub 6 seconds to 60 or there abouts in pace, good balanced handling.
Insurance must be a deciding factor at my age (quoted around £1500 for a Boxster S 986) which seems around the right ball park.
A car with a reputation of reliability is important.

Ive done alot of the usual searches, and have im leaning towards a Boxster S 986, the only problem is.. ive always hated boxsters! its just so appealing for the money! Suggest anything, im young and happy to go a bit crazy! Thanks.

Do a top gear, BMW 850 Ci.

V12, all the toys, Roushed leather (sp?), proper pimpmobile\executive blaster.

Even if it brings you to tears watching the fuel gauge, just make the lights pop up and you will be all giggly.


sell it after a year and buy a diesel.

Pretty much explored most of them, most temping for me is an Elise, but id want to wait for an S2 i think... All the others have one area which makes it unviable, insurance, teen fuel economy... Cheers for the suggestions!

TVR Chimaera (ignoring the repuation for being reliable...)
Honda S2000 - A bit slower than what you asked for, and maybe too similar to your CTR.
BMW Z4 3.0? - Not sure if they're around this price yet. Maybe slightly off the pace, and if it were me I'd go for the 986 S you mentioned.

Only other thing that comes immediately to mind is a Z3M, though I have no idea how much these cost and I suspect a lot higher than 8/9k.

There must be more, but my imaginations all out today.

An S2 Elise is probably doable on budget, but it may be a high-miler (not a problem really, as 'high miles' for an Elise is usually still less than average for a more mainstream car of similar age).

The Z4 3.0 gives very good mpg (for the performance on offer).

Out of those I personally would pick the Nissan. I think the Audi is starting to look dated IMO. I just picked the first three that popped into my head but there are many other good cars out there that fit your criteria.

A Chim is in budget too surely? More modern looks, but possibly still an option for some sort of classic/specialist insurance.
