Btcc v Ozzie v8
Discussion
Aussi v8 big engine 500bhp there or there about. Btcc, wtcc 1.6/2.0 turbo 300 bhp its clear that the v8s are quicker. I dont think they have run on the same track mind you but rather watch btcc more exciting. But why would they be envious half the field gets paid to race very few get paid in either btcc or wtcc
I'm really struggling to see the comparison or the reasoning behind your question.
Most racing drivers get a thrill out of what they are racing at that particular time.
I think you would only get people coming through the lesser racing series that would MAYBE look at it like that but would you ask a formula 1 driver if he felt envious of BTCC or WTCC, i doubt it but from a spectators point of view BTCC and WTCC are a better series to watch for the close quarters racing.
Have you ever raced?

You need to get a go in a proper racer, i only started last season with the Dunlop TVR challenge and i'm 40ish with a few extra pounds. Its not stupidly expensive but takes commitment and in return you get an amazing buzz.
Once you experience that you will understand where i'm coming from with my comment.

Ok well the car itself is the big bit, depending on where you want to be really, i bought a tasmin 2.9 cosworth(class C, smallest power class) that had just won the championship for 4k. put probably another 1.5k into it over the winter, bearing in mind that all work is done by myself and friends. The only other expence with the car was a set of tyres at £800 which lasted most of the season, but did the last round with a set of ex touring car slicks for £100 a set. Might just use them in the future as a set every meeting will work out cheaper.
The actual racing cost about £500-600 per race depending on what part of the country we were racing, i'm from the Northeast and most races are midlands or down south. this includes entry fees, fuel for racer and tow vehicle and hotels.
You need a bit in the bank should you break anything but we were quite lucky.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjmOzsoSQ4IV8s alone by the sound.. youre in big mistake.
I'd actually go so far as saying even the big heavy NASCAR Cup cars (weighing in at about 1.5 tonnes, with the aero of a breeze block) are quicker around a road course than a touring car given enough room! It depends on the track; around Croft, Snetterton and Silverstone (i.e. tracks with straight bits) the V8 stuff will obliterate the BTCC cars, but tracks like Cadwell where cornering is more of a priority would see the Brits reel the big cars in slowly...

Is the 2.9 cosworth the same that Peter wheeler used to race in the series when it was fresh? The actual racing cost about £500-600 per race depending on what part of the country we were racing, i'm from the Northeast and most races are midlands or down south. this includes entry fees, fuel for racer and tow vehicle and hotels.

What sort of power and weight is that car?
Also £4k for the race car being naive about this was that pretty much top end money in that series as it was a previous championship winning car or are they all pretty much the same?
Any pics would be great.
Not 100% sure but i think early on they ran the 2.8 V6 cologne engine but i could be wrong.
We got a car at the lower end, knowing it needed some work. You can pay around £25k for a class A car.
Last years championship winning car is for sale at about £8k i think and that has won its class almost every event for the last season and this season so far. That is ready to race without having to spend anything on it.
The TVR's were supporting the WTCC at Donington last weekend and the front runners were lapping quicker than the tourers so the V8's prove their worth on power circuits like Donny and Snett.

Err, try 650bhp and you'll be more accurate. They ran Nascar at Bathurst one year and their times were way off V8 supertaxi pace - fast on the straights but not so good around corners and tended to cook the brakes.
As for why the V8s are more fun than BTCC... for starters, this is Shane Van Gisbergen celebrating a win a few weeks ago:

BTCC hasn't been on tv here in NZ since back when Radisich was driving Mondeos, but I saw a WTCC race a while back and fell asleep.

Can't watch that in this country, if its a guy doing doughnuts then thats just banned in many championships. They ran Nascar at Bathurst one year and their times were way off V8 supertaxi pace - fast on the straights but not so good around corners and tended to cook the brakes.

A V8 supercar would tear a BTCC car to pieces around a track. They aren't much heavier (about 200kg heavier) but have more than twice the power.

Why would a big burnout be banned... safety? I know for sure that in Motor Bike racing that burnouts until the tyre goes pop is very common by the victor be it a circle or locked front brake with the rear tyre spinning away.
