Other countires that have canal systems ?

Are there any other countries that have a canal system as extensive as ours ? I would expect not as you never hear it mentioned but curious to know.

According to www.hoseasons.co.uk/boat-holidays you can hire Hoseasons boats in UK, Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Italy and Poland - but of course that includes rivers too.

I guess you had to be quite an early starter, in that you needed to move goods around before railways were invented.

How will they pay for the canals? It'll never happen.

I used to live a few miles from lock 24 on the Eerie Canal. Part river, part canal... One of the gateways to the west originally.

Dont they have one that allows pretty big shipping to get into the great lakes?

You know that pub in Burgges which sells all the different Beers? Well, a few years back I got talking to some British people in there. They had retired, brought a canal boat and planned to (sail??) all the way to St Petersberg- aparently you can do this using inland waterways only.

Rivers and canals are of course two different things; the OP referred to canals (ie man-made waterways)

The Eerie canal uses both natural waterways, and man made canal sections. There are remains from older canals all over the Syracuse area.
