I want to buy a Jaguar.

Heres the criteria:
Series 1 or 2 XJ6
MUST be a 4.2
Saloon or Coupe
Up to £5,000 to spend BUT would ideally like to be more like £4,000

Please help me find a car, I went to have a look at a coupe today and it was just not quite good enough for the money (£5500), the interior was absolutely shocking frown and the car had NO history whatsoever.

I live in hope and I may have some leads to follow too.

OH said "half the fun is looking" .... it normally is but this, for a change is a car I REALLY want to own. smile

God knows what I'll be like when I've got the cash to buy an E-Type and I'm looking for the right one .... wink

Did you not like the look of that one i suggested in the other thread? Apart from the colour if thats as good as it looks it really does look a well priced car that.

Wow, that looks so dated. Possibly it's just the colour.

That's why they call them 'classic cars'. Cracking car isn't it? One of the best colours for the XJ as well.

Since when does a a 'classic' have to look so dated as the Jag above to be a 'classic'? Even a 70's Jensen (since your a member of a Jensen club) looks less dated and that's basically a 60's design.

I find the Series 2 coupe to be incredibly pretty. I guess taste in cars is a personal thing; I love the styling of my XJ40, yet many people don't like them.

'Classic' implies that the car has stood the test of time for some reason. A Model T Ford is a classic, but it still looks dated. If you want modern, don't buy a classic.

Exactly, and not necessarily for good looks or for that matter being 'so dated looking' as I said eariler.

P.s. As for the Model T, I would have classed that as vintage rather than classic.

I think you might have classic confused with modern.

What do you want out of a 30 year old car?

As for an interceptor in what way does that look less dated than an XJ Coupe?

Veteran AND classic (bigger historial role than Beetle or Mini)

Veteran and vintage are defined (1930?) but 'classic' is subjective/personal. Frequently used by people to describe their own car 'cos they really like it. Or one step down from that, 'future classic'.
