Gorilla Pod

Does anyone use these and would you recommend one?

I've been doing quite a lot of skate photography recently and I need something that's pretty portable just in a back pack as we move spots fairly often and I don't want to carry something beefy around.

They're very good, you just need to get the model with enough weight capacity for your kit.

Awesome I'm only starting out so only have a the camera and it's stock lense at the moment so should be fine.

yup, been using one for years, great bit of kit, wrap it around railings etc, love mine.

Just to add my voice to those above. I love my Gorillapod. I've the "SLR" with the ball mount and it happily takes my 40D plus 70-300 zoom without drooping. Not sure I'd use it with anything much heavier mind you.

It's not a substitute for a full-size tripod in a studio or something but it makes an excellent travel tripod. I've also thought about sticking a plate on a torch so I can use it as a camping/garage torch thingy.

They do a torch with built in gorillapod legs.

I considered getting a Gorillapod, but instead went for a normal tripod 1/3 of the price. A lot more sturdy and still small and lightweight.

Mine comes with me everywhere I go!

Well when I take the camera out, I don't just carry it around ALL the time, that would be weird.

But anyway, I love it! Get one.

They are also quite fun relaxation devices, trying to get each leg properly straight is an exercise in Zen-like concentration (and something my OCD requires me to do on a regular basis..... )

Have got one for my hols in Spain, it was either the Manfrotto or the Golf clubs, and I doubt the Manfrotto would be much good on the course.

Will let you know how I got on.
