Top speed runs - how fast for £4k

By a freak of nature they decide to open up Pendine Sands for some high speed races.

You have £4k to buy & prepare your car to go as fast as you can. What would you pick and how fast do you think you could go?

200mph.

Old V8 barge that was limited to 155mph, would do a true 175mph.

Then a 200 shot of nitrous

Yup, surely the cheapest way to big power - and an engine life expectancy of 10 minutes!

i think supra/300zx turbo is the closest you would get for the money?

Turbo puts too much heat in to the engine and stresses the motor too much.

One or two runs and you'd start melting things.

A supercharger would be a better option.

Properly set up nitrous actually cools the engine.

A '98 R1 for a couple of grand and expect a good 170-180mph.

BMW 750, take the limiter off and see what you max out at, I guess you would be running out of sand pretty quickly in the 160-180mph area.

That's a good point- the car might be able to get to a high top speed but can it do it fast enough?

hmmmmmm good question

probably look for a Cat D/C Skyline or EVO/Impreza or even an older RS4/RS6. get it as cheap as i can. E bay the repair needed panels. get as much as i could into the engine/gearbox and drive train as i could.

The way i see it the 4X4 nature of these cars is only going to help keep the car straightish on the sand a little better than a squirmy RWD motor.

200mph seems to be a decent target considering the funds restrictions

Of course you could just pick something with a 180+mph limit already and fit mahoosive turbo and see where it gets too before the engine or box lets go!

There was never a 3-pot version of the A-series was there? Why does it have three exhausts?
