Birthing Music
Discussion
scented candles too??!
In my experience, the more you faff araound and have to get ready on birthing day, the more stress you introduce into the situation.
I can more than guarantee when push comes to shove, chillout music will be the last thing on your mind, and you fiddling around with cables and speakers will simply piss your mrs off who is on her knees trying to have a baby. You'll probably leave the lot in the car too.

tell her she can have music or drugs, but not both...........if she takes the music, make sure its loud enought to drown out the begging for the drugs.
But if you must have something classical i'd go with either

I agree with your points above about "oh ffs music for birth blah" and have had the conversation, however this tends to bring out the mental in a prego so have decided to provide what's desired
Does she listen to classical music now? If not, then your likely not going to guess something she will like, tell her to retune radio 1 in her car to Classic FM, and listen to it for the next few weeks, and make a (mental)note of the music she likes the sound of, this will at least give you a fighting chance or in the throws of labour she'll shout at you for the choice of music as well
Hmm, ok then, what is your wife's favourite music? Just put together a selection of her old faves (and not necessarily chilled - lots of happy uplifting stuff too) instead. Don't suddenly pull something together she's not familiar with.
I would though, seriously, try and reinforce the fact that giving birth 99% of the time is not a relaxed, calm and peaceful affair, no matter what you do to make it so. I'd describe it more like doing a triathlon while simultaneously going 12 rounds with Michael Hayes. Preparation for that (fluids, energy bars, a detailed race (birth) plan with possible scenarios for intervention that you agree to in advance). It's not just a nice trip to the spa!
If your wife is thinking she'd like music, then of course bow to her request - we all have to. Also, and after all, people love listening to their ipods when at the gym for a workout.

HTH.
Ok, serious hat on. I wonder if something up-beat and motivational would be better as it could be a long effort. Personally, I'd choose uplifting trance.
