If it's a 400 then yeah just standard Sierra discs. I actually fitted Focus discs to mine, parts number superceeded to the same part.

Cool!

Euro do them for about 11 quid each!!!

However for comparison i had a look on the Racing Green TVR shop...

For solid rear discs they want £39.46......each

worth the extra?!!!

What i would do is ditch the lot and go for the later Chimaera spec larger vented discs and calipers..When i had the early front and rear setup i was worried about the appalling brakes..scared me to deatheek

But you don't want to upgrade the rears until the front have been upgraded!

Brakes are the most important part of the car and if you can`t stop your fcensoredd.
beleive me i had that early setup ....They were terrible ! if your going to spend some money spend it on yhe brakes..and your talking about spending £11 on discseek

Never said i was going to get them chap!

But I'm just wondering how different pretty basic solid discs can be to warrant the price difference.

What calpiers would you use for a upgrade to take vented rear and i assume bigger fronts? are they just off later models?

Terrible seems a bit harsh, Mines a 95 400 and as far as I know the brakes are standard apart from braided hoses and I was quite supprised, thought they were quite good. Not noticed any difference from my 98 450 that would have had the larger set up. Although I suppose it depends what you use the car for mines for country lane thrashing and touring not howling round a track!

[/quote]But I thought cheap was bad according to your last post Darren confused £11ea for solid rear discs is about right, they can knock those out for 2 a penny nothing wrong with Eicher discs I use them at the workshop all the time scratchchin upgrading to the bigger rear brakes brings little advantage am afraid even though I did this anyway and that's how you got the heads up for a supplier of those rear hubs hehe i had the small brakes all round on my 95 and the improvement came from the bigger fronts with increased feel from the braided hoses biggrin

The later rear brake setup requires different hubs.I don`t think you can buy new hubs .the hubs are only cast metal so second hand ones are fine.Cheap discs are a different story.laugh

Seeing as how the front brakes do the majority of the work whats the easiest mod to make them more effective? without new hubs, different calipers etc. Any particular discs or pads which make a big difference? do braided hoses (as mentioned earlier) make any tangible difference?

My 94 4.0 Chimaera has been running around on the standard rear brakes since it came out the factory and it doesn't get an easy life and I'm not dead yet. wink
If your just using the car for fast road driving and you've not changed the fronts to anything special just replace like for like.
By far the best way to do it is to get one disc/pad set off the car and pop it down to your local auto factors, pop it on the counter and tell them you want some of these....they may have TVR listed but I doubt it, give them a hint it maybe something early 90's Ford and if they are any good within a few minutes there'll have some new ones on the counter for you.
It's ok saying this page on the interweb says they must be Ford this or that but I've always found the best way to get an exact match is to compare side by side in the shop, theres zero chance of error then, you'd be surprised how many little differenaces there are between 'Ford' products, slightly different offsets, diameters, thicknesses..... rotate
Drive home fit them and feel smug that you've changed the discs and pads on your car for under £50. smile
