It is so difficult not to apply pressure to my children when it comes to music. I was so pleased when my boy Alfie wanted to play guitar, the temptation to rush out and buy him a good guitar was overwhelming, however I resisted and bought him a charity shop acoustic (which is actually way better than the £25 I paid for it new) saying I'd buy him something better if he stuck with it.

He never puts it down...

So a couple of weeks ago he had his first public performance (of sorts) with a quick burst of 'wonderwall'. I'm sure you can relate to the immense pride I felt.

Anyway I thought I should reward him and so have bought him a 1990's Korean epiphone les paul in honey burst, it is an ebay job and was not expensive but as he has become a complete Jimmy Page fan over the last few months I'm hoping he'll be rather chuffed (if the seller and I can ever arrange a time to pick it up!).

I'm not really sure why I feel the need to share this but I suspect you lot will probably understand wink

Jammy git! How long's the lad been playing? Also, how old is he? He should find playing a lot easier on a proper guitar like that, since I moved up from an entry-level Les Paul to a Vintage V100 I've improved immensely

In reality I think about 4 or 5 months he is nine in a couple of months. He does play my guitars sometimes and loves it and I have given him an old aria proII wildcat that is actually better than I remember it. But he really loves Jimmy Page and he really wants a les paul so I think that this will really spur him on.. If he is really good I might even let him plug it in wink

He announced the other day that he no longer wanted to be a racing driver (and he has forgotten that for 5 mins he fancied being a footballer) but has decided that he would like to be a musician.

Anyway we should pick up his new guitar in the next few days, I'll try and get a picture of the look on his face when he finds out it is his!
