Warranty - Being taken for a ride?

Went to view a Fiat 100hp over the weekend - drove well, decent PX price, all good so far. Car was a '59 plate, registered in Sept 09. I asked the dealer how much warranty it would have, expecting the balance of 3 years. This was the response:
For the second owner only a two year warranty transfers over, fiat charge
£25 for the second customer to the benefit of the 3rd year...
Now, I know £25 isn't much but this did seem a bit odd to me.
Any thoughts?

A lot of cars only have a 1/2-year manufacturer warranty with the DEALERS supplying warranty thereafter.
This allows the dealers to impose conditions like having to use their workshops (the manufacturer cannot make such a stipulation) as well as adding conditions for warranty transferrability.
£25 doesn't sound like much but I think it's cheeky to ask for money for a warranty on a 2-year-old car - it suggests they'd rather you didn't take it out - at least to me.

Yes this, I had this with an Alfa which had just got to the end of its second year when the clutch and the timing belt idler/tensioner went - was dealer not manufacturer warranty.PAying £25 to get it transfered to you sounds like a small admin price well worth paying! Its a Fiat so you can be sure something will stop working!

Still, for a car just under 2 years old NOT to have more than a 2 month warranty without (an albeit) small fee does seem wrong. I wonder if the same would apply if a person sold a car privately (i.e. balance of manufacturers warranty) and then a claim was made against that warranty?
