What is the costings for adding licence classes and tests?

Seeing as i'm under the age of a hundred, i only have the pathetic B class, but would like D1 (which is anything over 9 but no more than 18) seats, such as a minibus for example.
I know you need to apply for the provisional in the class before you take the test, so my question is this;
How much does it cost to apply for/add the provisional class. How much does the test cost, and is the test easy? Seeing as i have driven, and can drive very easily, a LWB sprinter van, there's little to no difference with a sprinter or transit minibus, so is the test as hard as your first driving test? Or is it more of just gauging that you are safe and comptetent? How much does a test cost and whose vehicle do you use? Can you apply for a test as soon as you have your provisional?
Im not wanting to shell £500 out for a week course or whatever it is, because, in my opinion, for a class like D1, its a bit pointless, it's not like im trying to drive an HGV.
Edit: The PCV thing wont apply to me, it's use will not be for hire/reward etc.
