Oliver (my 3.6 Sovereign) has recently thrown up the following symptoms...

White smoke out of the exhaust
Oil 'rainbowy' film in the coolant reservoir after standing for a week
Running rich - carbon fouled spark plugs
Lumpy running/missing through the rev range & at idle
The oil level seems to have dropped by a fair amount too

Some guys off another forum said the first suspect would be the headgasket, but I thought I'll get more opinions first before whipping the head off?

Umm,

You will test it before 'whipping off the cylinder head'?

Cylinder compressions.

Cylinder leak test.

Gas in the coolant?

Just been out to move the Jag and the temperature gauge went two dashes above normal at which point I shut it down, and there's oil and coolant pissing out of the headgasket onto the gearbox...
