When you fit the eyelets make sure that the seat still moves. When my harness was fitted they clashed with the seat and I had to change the height a tad.
Make sure that you buy a good quality harness with wide straps for comfort.
I found the harness from Demon Tweaks to be excellent (i'll check the brand if you like). I have a threepoint and it makes a big difference on trackdays. It does take a while to adjust it when first fitted.

Been reading that Trackday book that is advertised on Pistonheads recently. Not got that far in it but it mentions harnesses and there are some legal questions with them - something about a seat belt must be possible to strap in using only one hand?!?!?
Is this correct? Are there any legal questions with these four / three point systems? What about MOT's? Any ideas? New to this game so dont know.
Cheers,
Paul

If you don't take the seatbelts out, then the issue doesn't arise. It is not necessary to remove them to fit a harness, so why do it?
Wearing a harness on the road is not advisable as it is often useful to be able to lean forward (to look around junctions etc). Besides, harnesses are a pain in the arse to put on for short trips.

I had both harnesses and belts - I agree that the belts are ideal for day-to-day driving. I also had the problem with the bottom eyelets clashing with the seat runners.
I would recommend getting the harnesses with the aircraft style quick release mechanism - so much easier. Also get the wider webbing (3 inch?) - you won't need the max power pads then - they're really comfortable.
I've just taken mine out since I realised I hadn't used them for months, and I don't have a roll cage anyway (have a special bar between seat belt top mounts).

You can get BS approved belts if you want but the MOT regs state that a 3 point or more static belt correctly fitted meets the requirements. Several racers have had further confirmation.
The Tower View bar uses the rear mounts/location for the bar stays but the angle is not ideal for a three point if the mounts are put onto the bar itself. The mounts go onto the hoop and there are two. Each side of the bar and importantly the head rest. This is ideal for a four point. A three point is tricky as there is not enough room to prevent the Vee where the belts join together from catching on the hear rest support. A definite no-no for the seat belt installation.
I forgot to add that as the bar is designed so that you can't hit your head on it in an accident, the hoop is behind the seat and the mounts are on horizontal tubes that position the shoulder straps exactly where the set belt manufacturers recommend they should be. It was all a question of Shorty applying his knowledge to work out where the best and safest place for everything should be.

With the Tower View roll bar you need a four point Caterham or Westfield style belt. Anything else is too long. As for fitting the floor ones, pretty good description in the bible including pictures of the different length bolts.
Steve
Although at first glance it might look as if this is so, in fact it isn't strictly true. You can feed the double section of the straps through the clip to shorten the strap by an extra six inches or so which is ample.

Alright Pete...
Perknickety mode on...
1. This is the Chimaera forum so I was referring to the Griff/Chimaera roll bar where shortening the strap is not an option. Been there. Measured it. Etc.
2. On the other roll bars this is not a problem.
Perknickerty mode off...
If you are short in the leg then you might get away with shortening the strap but I have the seat as fgar forward as I can and there still wasn't enough room for my liking. I didn't consider a few mm sufficient.
Anyway bought that V8 fourwheel drive gokart yet
