STOLEN: Black E46 M3 - MH05 MAH

My black M3 was stolen off my driveway.....appears to have been last night after 10pm Monday 19th and before 7am Tuesday 20th.
Car was in Weybridge, Surrey.

Carbon black, black leather interior.

So, car was stolen some time overnight on Monday by stealing the keys and I didn't notice/report it until 11pm tonight (Tuesday). Called Tracker, they activated it and the police come round to take a statement around midnight.

At 1am Wed, police call to say they've used the Tracker to find the car in Feltham, plates already changed, car is parked up and locked. Can they come round to get the spare key to recover the car and take it to forensics!

They aren't 100% sure of the condition yet, but they say it is almost certainly fine as it was likely waiting to be sold on.

And to the police who were with me 30 mins after it was reported and found the car within two hours of it being reported.

Good to hear, there was a story in the Echo today about a car advertised on here that was stolen by the prospective buyers, so it is nice to know that you can sometimes see the again.

How did they steal the keys? We aren't entirely sure. They either picked the lock, opened the front door and took them from the hallway, or used a fishing rod trick to hook them off a table 3m from the front door. Given I have security flood lighting in the front, they would have set that off but it didn't appear to deter them.

I wouldnt want mine back. Maybe you were lucky, but a lot of times they are thrashed, and dented.
Lets face it, they know where your car is and they have a key to it.

Why do so many people say they wouldn't want the car back? Most cars that are nicked to be sold on aren't going to be thrashed around because the people that stole them don't want to draw attention to themselves. Also unless you've had the car since new it's probably been thrashed by the previous owned at some point anyway.

I'd much prefer my car back a few hours later than getting screwed by your insurer on the current value of your "depreciating like a stone" M3 and end up possibly thousands of pounds out of pocket.

I would have thought most M3 drivers would have a tracker?

I still wouldnt want any car back after it was stolen.

If it has been recovered, you wouldn't have a choice on whether you get it back or not I would have thought? Unless it is an insurance write off or something.

Anyhow, glad to hear that Tracker worked in this instance - will be putting on my next car for sure

You would think so but didn't bother activating mine this year and saved the subscription fee, reason being the insurance was £50 less without one...

Wouldn't want my car back if it was stolen to be honest - irrespective of how it's been treated won't it always come out on HPI as 'stolen recovered'?

Question - does the insurance company pay out a partial amount for value lost as a result of a car moving from HPI clear to the 'stolen recovered' category?

There will be no HPI record, as it was recovered before paying out.

you only get a hpi record if an insurance company has paid out.


although i believe it may have been showing as stolen briefly, but that will be cleared.
