Recovering lost images

Didn't want to jump on the previous thread, I've got a similar issue at present. Just got back from a four week trip to Alaska, during which I made a balls up in tracking which memory card I'd downloaded to my portable hard drive.
In simple terms, I was using three cards then lost track of which one I'd downloaded to my HD and ended up formatting all the cards. I then realised what had happened and kept the card I thought was the one affected aside before it was reused, but I got that wrong too and reused the one with images on it that I hadn't copied.
Is there anything available that could recover overwritten files, paid or free? The photo's cover a really good part of the trip and since it was our honeymoon, I'd like to do what I can to recover them.
It's an 8GB CF card and the images are .CRW
I have tried a number of programmes such as Recuva, Zero Assumption, REMO etc but they only seem to find the most recent files.
Have learned the hard way that I need to name my cards and just dumping files onto an HD without viewing them (after driving for 10 hours) is asking for trouble.
The good lady has been very reasonable about it, thank god.

When I used the Sandisk recovery program for a corrupt card I couldn't believe how much historical data it found even pre-dating several card formats. Nearly 800 jpg and raw files on a 4gb card
Not free but hardly expensive under the circumstances. Think you can run a free trial which shows you extent of recovery options but with limited save ability, just to help you assess if it's going to work for you.
