I have waited years to post here - Defender content
Discussion
I have had some nice cars over the years, Boxster S, 530d, 4.6HSE RR, Defender TD5 90 and 110, MX5 amongst others. I have not had a car worth posting here during my PH history, until now.
I bought my 109" I used to own 20 years ago sight unseen. Unfortunately when it was delivered it was clear the work to sort it was not economical so 6 months later it was sold on for export by a USAF pilot for his kids to the states. I was very upset at seeing it trailered away on the back of a huge yank pickup, and swore I would have something else from Lode Lane on the drive.
We had bought 2 Fiat 500's under scrappage before the price of them shot up, and we sold on straight away for a profit and the other was sold yesterday for £1k profit despite owning it for 18 months.
This is its replacement. It has a lot of mods, chipped, snorkel, wading kit, rear door table and an Ebspacher heater. Rather better than a 500 in my opinion. 61k miles. It has a few issues with corrosion under the paint here and there but that will be sorted in time. The previous owner paid £20k for it in 2008. Cost me less than £9k with half a tank of diesel and a brand new MOT. Its quiet on the motorway, the diffs have been done and no transmission looseness. I think its storm grey, and it was funny to have people looking at it on the motorway but this thing is bloody huge. The ideal school run vehicle.

I have plans to run this car on vegetable oil, its a TD5 which is very suitable, or unsuitable depending on what you read on the internet.

I still miss my 110.. and I sold it in '94. It was my dive truck on Ascension Island (South Atlantic). I could load up 4 divers and all their kit and get to all the "inaccesible" beaches. At the end of the day just pull out the rubber mats and hose it out - job done. Perfect tool for the job.. last I heard it was still running around the island with Cyril at the wheel....
Enjoy yours - looks a bit tidier than my blue lorry

We have an'07 TD5 90 and it's a superb piece of kit (but then I am biased as I also have a '66 109 in the drive).
Your's is an early one (or alternative plate?) so I doubt it has a CAT/particulate filter but if it does fot a replacement downpipe from the turbo removing the filter then dump the center silencer. makes it a tad louder but it revs and pulling power are transformed. Also bypass the EGR.
Not touched ours with SVO due to the worries on the net and prefer to play safe (unit injectors going bye bye is a cost I would like to avoid if poss). The only alternative to dieso it sees is around 300mL of 2 stroke at each fill up. Our SVO stash is reserved for the 109 which is twin tanked with a 200tdi

Did you buy it from Nene Overand? If so you should probably check its not stolen.
The previous owner bought it off Nene, I have heard about a director getting done for (alleged) fraud, clocking I think. I hpi'ed it. I have an mot before they bought it which verifies the mileage and all documentation from about 10k. I was very wary. Its a 1998 but looks much later, I am considering a non age plate.
It will be doing the school run! Kids love it. No bench cushions though trying to source one.
Will do a bit of green laning. Injectors don't seem to be a fortune second hand, might try a mix of veg/derv, although if the do go they need a testbook. The tank pump is weak as well I have heard. Bit paranoid about getting it nicked now, so its gone in the garage with about an inch to spare. Turning circle of a supertanker. Will need some wheel spacers or I will be doing 20 point turns in tesco.
Thinking about one of these QUICK RELEASE SNAP ON OFF STEERING WHEEL BOSS KIT !!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am... The foot pedal lock boxes will be a tight fit with the aircon - yes aircon! And heated seats.
I will post some more photos later when I pick the kids up from school.

Doesn't the AC unit fit in the passenger footwell? I did a tourist tour of Cyprus in a TD5 110 with 130k on the clock and the AC unit in that was in the front passenger footwell. Was a very uncomfortable day for me. Feet prized apart and I felt like I was sitting like a penguin! It will be doing the school run! Kids love it. No bench cushions though trying to source one.

Heated seats in the winter will be nice. Even in 1998, LR couldn't make defender doors seal properly!
I haven't owned a LR yet, but I will do

Yes that is where the aircon unit is. Its OK I have amputated my legs below the knee I love this car so much. It may come out and be sold on. Its actually the second Defender I have had with aircon, its not too bad.......Heated seats in the winter will be nice. Even in 1998, LR couldn't make defender doors seal properly!

Suprisingly all but 1 door close perfectly, I had seen one where you had to mahooosively slam the doors to get them to close.
I will post some more pics when I stop cuddling it and get it out of the garage later.
