Has metallic red now overtaken white as the colour of choice for new cars unvailed to the public? I have seen a few new cars including the Evoque and MP4-12c being featured in magazines in this colour.

Odd if it is as Ford in the US have canned Lava Red (a purply-red concoction) in favour of another grey as I understand the pigments come from earthquake-struck Japan.

They go through phases. I recall around 2004 we had a spate of metallic blue press cars. I suppose it simply pays to have a press car in the best colour suiting the car.

I always assumed grey was the bog standard colour these days, every second car is grey or a variant of.

If it is, then I for one, would be happy with this smile

I think there are certain phases when a colour suddenly strikes a chord with the public. in the 7o's we had metallic brown and oyster gold on Fords and does anyone recall Rover Nightfire Red and that lovely turquoise metallic they did being very popular?

What I find odd is that in the US you tend to get a different colour palette with blues, reds and yellows being far more common.

Perhaps its to do with our weather, its usually gloomy to blues, grey's whites and black are the usual while in the States its a bit more upbeat weather wise

Probably true. I also find Americans unbearably optimistic.
