OMG *runs around in panic*
about 2 or 3 weeks ago my partner comes to bed and tells me one of the rats had escaped and ran across the living room floor! he has put her back in her cage but had not seen the door was open or anything and was unsure how she had gotten out. I got up and went to investigate, and gasped as I walked in to see her in the boy rats cage I swiftly put her back and returned to bed calling o/h all the idiots under the sun for putting her in the wrong cage! he swears blind he did not!!! so unable to sleep for fear of her escaping again I got up to put her in a spare smaller cage for the night (having 2 cats the last thing you want is an escapee!! )
In the morning I put her back in her cage and set up a camera, as I needed to find out how she had gotten out, within seconds she slid the side door up (they are in a parrot cage as its bigger than standard rat cages) climbed down, ran across and squeezed into the boy rat cage!!!!!!
the doors were soon metal clipped down to avoid any other escapes!!
but over the last few days my little monster girl is looking rather... ROUND!!!
so babies coming soon! and any tips etc welcome!!!

That's a fine looking rat!
Rats are clever little buggers. When our last rats were small they worked out that if they pushed hard against the longer bars of the cage, they opened up just enough for them to squeeze out!
My current rats have a run around most evenings & happily climb over me & Mrs thumbs. But they can sense when i want to put them back in the cage & they both hide in small gaps in the bottom of the sofa so I can't pick them up
