Cars You've Missed the Boat on?
Discussion
Replying to a thread on here about someone wanting a V8 got me thinking...
There are certain cars out there I'd always wanted but for various reasons (money, insurance, not fitting with the rest of the fleet, impractical for work, etc.) I've never got around to buying.
For a lot of these now, I fear the moment has probably passed and I'll never own one now unless I pocket a major lottery win either because they've dated too much, are going to be too high miles or just generally knackered.
I'm not talking megabucks, just things that tugged your heart strings over the years;
My list;
Mazda RX-7, first saw one at the Birmingham motorshow years ago as a small kid and always wanted one.
Jaguar XJR (the XJ308 version) They're all too high mile and are aging a little in design for me now.
BMW 850 CSi - They're overpriced, and I don't have the chest wig or Hoff hair to carry it off.
Ferari 456 - It's teetering on the brink for me now - I will have one if it kills me but some days I look and think it's dated...
Is there anything that you used to pine for that has now slipped into the never, never category?

Have you driven one?
No but to my mind it's a little expensive to indulge an old yearning and that's why I'll probably never drive one (even though I had a photo on my wall for years).Have you driven one?
It's a silly reason not to, but it's those silly reasons that stop me from bankrupting myself

BMW M3 the E30* one i wanted one when prices were at the bottom of the market but i never bought one.
Likewise, but I was holding out for a Cecotto one to fall into my sights. Too Late!!!- The crap one with the horrible little 4pot and zero toys
Old man missed a full fat Batmobile for £10k about 20 years ago and sold a wingless CSL, in perfect just restored condition about 3 years before the market woke up.
On the flip side i am aware of a chap who bought an M1 becasue he'd always dreamed of owning one. Would have sold it after a year or so if the engine hadn't developed an issue. By the time he had had time to get it fixed and it was back in his garage the market had woken up...
I was quite excited about the Fiat 500 way before it launched and no-one was seemingly interested in buying one. The prices were very reasonable for a new one, with 0% finance and all sorts of other deals to tempt people back to Fiat.
I debated going for one and didn't bother. And then about a year after they came out people gradually got keen on them.. and the deals went away.. and the prices went right up.. and I lost interest!
